       Rollers with Muff feet

I like how some rollers have muffs but how did rollers(pigeons
in general) develop the muff genetic?? How can you breed muffs
without the parents having the muff feet?

Asking that is the same as asking why the Portugese Water dog
has webbed toes. All organism families are in a constant state
of genetic flux, seeking out the "ideal speciman" that will
allow them to live the longest, attract the best mate, eat with
the least effort and produce the most offspring. At some point
eons ago a pigeon was born with a mutation that included muffs
or the propensity for additional feathering, that was fostered
either naturally or by human intervention and the trait survived
       till today.
