Rollerman, I agree 100% but I would add that one person's culls
are another's best bird. I am in NO way advocating giving culls
to newbies to avoid your responsibility but if you can help
someone. I personally would never sell or give away any bird I
would not keep for myself.
Ty, that makes sense and the more you think on it, the more
sense it makes.
Take care my friends

Ty,
That's a good way of looking at your standard....the weakest not
the best
represents your minimum standard.

Thom,
That is the main system that I use in pairing my birds. I do use
some half-bro/half-sis matings and occasionally full bro/sis.
And my percentages improve a little each year using it.

Cliff, I tried full brother/sister without much success. My best
percentages has been with father/daughter and not quite as good
mother/son combinations. I have never tried half brother/sister.
I might as a side project but my system is working so I'm
sticking with it! :)
Take care my friend

Thom,
I haven't had much luck with the bro/sis matings either. But I
have a double bro/sis mating behind most of my family that was
extremely successful, so I keep trying it.

I have only tried the full sibling mating once. The hawk got one
and the other is in my A kit. My birds are realy tightly bred
and I try to keep subfamily's and breed back and forth.

I picked that up from James Turner, I cant take credit for it
but it made sense to me.

I suspected as much, Ty, and it's good to see you give credit
where due. If one listens, James is full of little tid-bits like
that!

Hey Guys, I could use a little advice. First I do want to
mention, I have no intention of discontinuing my Ruby strain. To
the contrary, I intend to keep breeding from the original Ruby
pair and their progeny.
I raised two very outstanding Jacconette. hens this year.
Both are almost twins in looks and performance. My question is
as follows. With a mating of the Ruby strain and the Jacconette
strain, and with the Ruby being a cock. Then through successive
in-breeding/line-breeding and selection using the best of the
young hens bred to her father and only breeding to the cock‘s
side, would the Ruby strain ever be considered as “pure”? If so,
in how many generations?
Thank you all and Take care my friends

Thom, I red some where it was 7-9 generations. I could be wrong
but thats what I remember. I think. Shawn
