Not exactly line breeding, not exactly inbreeding
By: oldfart Date: September 25, 2010, 3:28 pm
       ---------------------------------------------------------
This is not exactly line breeding to it‘s truest form but is
more like a cross between line and inbreeding. Be aware that all
traits, good or bad will become condensed so each year choose
only the birds that exemplify your conception of what the
perfect roller represents. Selection is the key for success.
Avoid the temptation to use more then the scheduled breeders.
Instead when there are additional birds you consider worthy,
       start a separate line.

       1[sup]st[/sup] breeding season.
       “A” Original cock
       “B” Original hen
“C” Best cock produced from “A+B”
“D” Best hen produced from “A+B”
2[sup]nd[/sup] breeding season using the progeny from the
       1[sup]st[/sup] breeding season.
“A+D” Original cock bred to best young hen produced in first
       breeding season. (Father/daughter)
“B+C” Original hen bred to best young cock produced in first
       breeding season. (Mother/son)
“E” Best cock produced from “A+D”
“F” Best hen produced from “B+C”
3[sup]rd[/sup] breeding season using the progeny from the
       2[sup]nd[/sup] breeding season.
“E+D” Best young cock “D” produced in the 1[sup]st
[/sup]breeding season is bred to best daughter ”F” produced in
       2[sup]nd[/sup] season. (Father/daughter)
“C+F” Best young hen produced in the 1[sup]st[/sup] breeding
season is bred to best son produced in 2[sup]nd[/sup] season.
       (Mother/son)

The 2[sup]nd[/sup] breeding season cock and hen now become the
foundation and the process starts over. I use the original cock
and hen to start another closely related line with the intent of
a possible in/cross if ever needed. Even though both lines have
the same origins, the gene pool is so diverse that even nest
mates are not exact copies. I have very limited knowledge of
genetics and am not qualified to say how long this could be
continued, so I post this as suggestion only. I think there are
other methods, which work as well, only slower.

       Take care
       Thom

Thats a great way to making your own family . That A and B birds
have to have everything you would want in your loft. Thanks for
       sharing. Shawn

Hey Shawn, Your are right it pays to have the two best birds you
can find or breed. Slection and a hard mind set help, only use
       your best each season.

       Thanks, Take care

Thom I plan on using that breeding method when I can find the
$200-3oo I would need for that right pair. Thanks thom. shawn

       Thank you Gentlemen,

Rocky my fiend How are your young birds doing? I hope you have
all of the other Gents from down-under worried!

Hey Shawn, You can start anytime, it will quickly show you their
       potential and their faults.

tpvang thank you, reading it is harder then doing it!

Jim it looks complicated but is in truth very simple.

       Take care my friends

       Hey Thom:

Great post, I know there are a lot of Newbies out there that
just don't understand the need to be extream in the culling
process. You have to be able to cull hard-hard-hard. Don't breed
to it if it doesn't come up to your standards, no matter
       what---If they don't fly right-they die

Roller Man, It was told to me like this. Your standard is the
weakest bird in your stock loft. Think about it, It made sense
       to me.
