I finally found out what family my blacks and reds are from.
They are Higgins birds from Cali. Anyone familiar with that
particular family? :-\

That would be Jerry Higgins, former NBRC VP, President, and NBRC
Hall of Famer and Master Flyer.
His birds have got the goods, the only thing is how many
generations ago was this bird from Higgins? Anyhow, regardless
of the name behind the birds, fly 'em out and see how they do.
Good luck

butterup,
Where are you located in North Carolina? My brother just got
four pair of Higgins birds to breed from (and a few pair of
Hardestys). He used to breed Danny Horner Jaconettes but gave up
on them as a competition family because they tend to sky out
after they mature. You and he could probably swap success and
failures with the family (Higgins). We are in Oak Ridge, just
north of Greensboro. If you would like to , I'll be happy to
keep you up to date on any roller local roller events...I just
need you e-mail address.
Thanks,
Cliff

Hey Cliff, just read this. I live in Canton N.C. 'bout twenty
min. from Asheville if that helps. MY email is
buttertup_2008@yahoo.com It would be nice to
recieve news or invitations to events. I don't have any birds in
the air yet, but I did fly my breeders before stocking them.
The young I have had I have had to give to the man who gave me
the birds to begin with in fair trade, but later this spring I
should be flying. Hey thanks! 8)

Thanks, Scott.
Butterup,
Yes, I'm familiar with Canton.....way up in the mountains in BOP
country! My dad was born and raised in Bryson City. We used to
visit often and still do for family reunions...and I have also
done some white-water rafting up there, too.
I'll put you on my e-mail list to keep you posted...would love
to have you attend some of the regional flies. The closest to
you will be Clay Hoyle in Connely Springs, NC just off I-40. He
is a double Master Flyer and always puts up a good kit of birds.
And then we have a recent addition(two years ago) to our roller
family, Dennis White, in Shelby. All are good people. I look
forward to meeting you. I'd be glad to donate a kit of young
birds for you to fly out this spring, if you are
interested....alway s glad to help someone getting started in
the hobby.....
Take Care,
Cliff

Jeff,
We have a couple of guys who fly old lines of Hardesty birds in
our region... Lathan Collins, Benny Hargrave and Dennis Cook. My
brother had gotten a couple of them from Benny, then gave them
to me, when he used to be so committed to only flying Danny
Horner's Jaconette birds. One rolled down and the other has been
in my comp team for two years...very good performer. So when
Chuck was well enough after his surgery to get back in the
sport, I gave him the cock from my A-team, and he got a few more
from Lathan and Dennis, so he now has 5 or 6 pair to start with.
He is going to work with the Higgins and Hardesty birds to see
which he likes better in the air.
Cliff
