you need 2 things for this to work ,one being lots and lots of
time and the 2nd thing you need is 3 foster pair for each hen if
you don't foster the eggs with good pairs the hens will get
bored and leave the nest and if she don't she wont have enough
milk to feed the chicks. the cock will not feed 3 nests he will
chose one and pair up.Dennis (no rookie lol)

To up your game one more level. Collect semen from your best
cock, and inoculate your hens with semen. All hens will be with
vasectomized cocks, so that they do not spread "their" seed.
Then hens will raise their own young, no need for extra fosters.
Just cock birds that have been altered(of course where do u get
those?) but some food for thought. No need to spend all the time
working the cock with all those hens if you can collect from
       him.
But who collects semen from their birds? it can be done, id be
surprised if guys were doing it though.

Hey KevinM, I am a farm boy through and through but if my boys
can not get it done, it's not going to get done! Besides they
follow me around toooo much now! :)
       Take care

In my son and my breeding program we use nine cockbirds (we
have nine individual pens) and approx. twenty hens....we put two
hens with one cock and try to foster the eggs but often times we
do not have enough fosters so the cock will be stuck with two
hens on eggs at once .....rarely do we have any problems with
the cock not sitting both nests or not feeding the babies in
both nests......our biggest problem has been with the two hens
fighting if they are not both introduced to the cock at the same
       time......
We have experimented with some of the more aggressive
cocks and have got as many as eight babies from one cock and
five hens in the span of one week without using fosters.....but
for this to work it needs to be a an aggressive cock and the pen
or cage needs to be big enough to allow plenty of space for the
       hens..

       Scott, our individuals are 32" x 32" x 26" tall.....each
       individual has 2 plywood nestboxes that are 9" x 7" x 10" tall
and when the hens need to raise their own babies we add 2 more
nestboxes for them to use for their next round of eggs... Jay

Thanks Jay I have never tried this but will give it a go it sure
would save some room when you dont have to keep so many fosters

just a quick note on how I do polygamy matings.
Use unmated hens. Put each hen in a cage, preferrably stacked.
Put them all in their cage at the same time, with nest bowl and
nesting material. Put male in first pen, next day, move to next
pen, next day move to next pen. Do this for 5 days, moving cock
       each day.
On 6th day, move the cock every 4 to hours. Yeah, you read
that right. You want to make sure the male is mated to them all
and the eggs are fertilized. after the 2nd egg is laid in the
last nest. move the cock each evening, so he will give the hen a
       break with the nesting.
After the young are hatched go back to moving the cock every 4
to 6 hours or so. This assures he will help feeding the young
and give the hen a break.
I'm fortunate to live close to my office so morning, lunch and
evening swaps work well. However it is a lot of work and once
you start you have to stick to it to keep from wearing out the
hens. In my opinion it would probably be easier (and a lot less
       complicated) if fosters were used.
