Hi Marvin, with all due respect, culling is not cruelty. Might I
suggest you spend more time reading the archives on this site
and others to fully inform yourself on this topic. The debate
has been had a hundred times. Respectfully...

The further we move from an agrarian society the more often we
are going to have to deal with this. There are so many people
out there that have never had a hand in food preparation and
preservation, including the butchering of livestock. I learned
at an early age how to pop a neck in rabbits, chickens and to
quickly put down a hog and a steer. Having said that, to-date
i've not become a serial killer or rapist, though once I did
forget to pay a parking fine.
Seriously, anyone that breeds stock must be prepared for those
individuals that don't come up to snuff; whether it be the wrong
color, doesn't perform, is sick or lame. To keep everything
that is bred alive and in your loft isn't good animal husbandry.

Hey Windjammer, and all the rest of you:
What if when you die God culls you because you didnt do
something perfectly.... I know all of you guys want mercy but if
you never show any how can you expect it.......
And just to let all of you guys know im not new to the bird
world ive been in it for a while. i just like the opinons of
others so im new to the site not the game..... ive been around
champion lofts all across the world...... Yes THE WORLD and
culling is not as normal as you guys may think........
Most guys give the birds to beginner flyers or just let it go
and nature will kill it: hawks, falcons, cats ect.....
And as far as a bleeding heart @windjammer whats wrong with it
bro. I bet you aint that tough with everything.......
ITS SIMPLE JUST DONT BREED THE BIRD AND GET IT OUT OF OUR STOCK
KIT........ BUT DO WHANT YOU WANT

Marve sorry to say but it's lot more humane to pop it's little
neck than have a cat or a BOP cripple it and have it hide under
a bush to suffer and die.You mentioned giving it to a beginner I
am a beginner and many people gave me good birds they don't want
there name ruined buy giving someone culls.Dennis ;)

Respectfully Marvin, I don't know of a single person in animal
husbandry that doesn't cull let alone pigeons.
As far as rollers go, every single person who wants to "breed
better rollers" cull and cull quite hard they do. The method of
culling is up to you. Some give them away to people who don't
care about about performance, color, etc, some drop them off
somewhere while others take care of it themselves.
Marvin, you said you've been to many of the top roller lofts in
the world and it's not a common practice? I'd say that those
lofts were either not what you thought they were or exactly what
you thought they were.
There probably isn't a single person competing in rollers that
does not cull and there isn't a single backyard breeder (which
everyone who breeds rollers belong to) who has good birds that
does not cull at all. I am a beginner, a backyarder, have never
competed, and I've had to cull to keep only what I need.

Ahhh, if I may add. I have never heard of anyone enjoying having
to cull anything, and most don't even talk about it, as it is
unpleasant.It is done
for many different reasons, but never just for the sake of
cruelty.
We have to mind ourlofts as we see fit,and it simply is not fair
to come under fire for doing so. I have lived off the land all
of my life, and culling is a reality for me,and not just when it
comes down to birds. It also extends to livestock as well, though
often times that is done more as an act of mercy. I hold no
disdain nor disrespect for those who do not wish to cull, but
please do not think those of us who do for whatever reason,as
unkind,it is not that simple. :-\
