how to train 40 birds in one coop.

Hi,
I just bought 40 birds, all are 2011 birds, but some older
than others, none over 10 months. i have them in a 8 by 8 foot
coop they have plenty of room to fly around.....
Now my problem is the number of birds to control. ive had them
locked away for about 2 months they are trained to the feed
call..... how do i train 40 birds to use and know the trap. i
one day want them all in the air all at once and videos ive seen
it can be done but how...... please help...

I would say start training a few at a time if you let out 40
birds at one time as old as they are you could loss a lot or all
of them then when you get them trained you can fly them all
together

There's a couple things you could do. If you have had them for 2
months, my first question is "Can they see their surroundings
from inside their coop/kitbox?" If so, you might not have to do
much trap training. If they can't see their surrounding, a
training cage would be your best shot.
For a training cage, all you do is attach it to the outside of
the kitbox. It can go right outside of where your trap door is
and is sometimes helpful if it can go over the top of your
kitbox/coop.

I'd say a settling cage that would fit the 40 birds comfortably
- Build it so it has the trap door available to them - and let
them learn it on their own - when all the birds are comfortably
using it - then it's time to release them - then they also can
witness their outside surroundings for that time period ---
That's what I'd try with that many - I personally breed My own
and train by hand - setting them up by the traps from the day
they open their eyes and can't yet fly - and they catch on - but
with older birds I believe a settling cage would be best .....

Marvin, First thing I would do is divide the loft into at
least 2 sections and make two kits of 20. There are many ways to
train older birds.... I have a wire cage that will hold 10
birds. I put the cage on top of the kit box and then my garage
which is close to the kit box. I do this for 3 or 4 days. Then I
put the birds in the kit box don't feed them at all for 1 day
and open the trap, so they can come out if they want. By the way
every day when they are done on the roof in the cage , I put
them thru the trap, so they learn to trap. When you think they
are ready open the trap and let them out. Never chase them, let
them do their thing and when ready, whistle them in or shake
the feed can . Some have a wire cage that goes over trap and
then goes onto the roof of the kit box. The birds can come and
go out of the trap and on the roof on their own. I never had one
and didn't build one, so I just used my cage. Both systems will
work. Maybe someone on here has pictures of one that they can
post. Be PATIENT!! It's Very important. 1st, Cut the kit in

thanx for all the help..... #Superior Spinners. ive devided the
coop into two and yes they can see their surroundings when they
go out into the trap. i also lock them out there sometime for
an hour or so and call them in and they come rushing. but does
that mean when i let them out they will kno how to come through
the door to get back in....?
every morning i wake up they are all chillin in the trap so i
know they have diffidently figured it out................
sometime i see on you tube these guys have like 30 birds on the
roof and there like coaching the birds into the trap whats that
about
and someone els told me to just open the coop and just let the
birds come and go as they please all day for a week? ??? ??? ?
does that work foreal.
please help me guys

If they are going in and out of a trap then they have that part
figured out They are kinds pretty smart. Since you have had them
at your place for a couple months I would say they are ready to
fly. Keep them hungry and let them out. They know where food is
and will stick around. Let them be comfortable being free. Do
not spook or chase them up for a week or so. After that I would
start taking them for little walks so they get in shape and
start flying for longer time periods.
Be consistant with fly time and behaviors you want. They get in
a habit and that is what thye like to do, that includes fly
time, I swear they have built in clocks. good luck

so i shouldnt scare them even if they are just sitting
there.......... i let ten of them out and they all just followed
eachother to the grass and started picking around just let them
do that or what?

Marvin, It sounds like your letting the birds out and about
already, if so it's time to start flagging. Get a stick, pole
or something long and put a piece of cloth on the end. When you
let them out "flag" them right away, don't let the sit on the
roof. Once you get them in the air, let them land if they want
to . Make sure they land only on the loft. no trees or wires.
The 1st couple of times they wouldn't fly long, but thats
alright. They will fly longer each time you do this. Remember
flag them as soon as they come out, that way they will take to
the air as soon as they get out, once they get that habit, they
will be easy to take to the air.

Once u get them out on the grass you can let them be for at
least 2 days then its time to start flagging them(flagging is
already explained below).what rtwilliams mean by taking them on
walks is when u get them flying and see their surroundings,you
should take them down the street or just at your front yard(but
not too far) and release them.
