Photography Tips?

I've started photographing my stock pigeons and quickly realized
I needed help. Some birds stand nicely while others work the
cage incessantly. Do any shutterbugs have tips they'd like to
share? Lighting, backgrounds, how to calm birds, etc.

Hey Mark, when I take pictures of a single bird I place a soft
towel in the bottom of the cage, then I hold the bird from the
back with the bird facing forward. I bounce the bird with one
hand on the towel with it's feet just touching and release. The
bird will take a few steps and turn to face me and that is when
I snap the shot and several as fast as the camera will allow.
With a little practice you will get some great shots.
Take care my friend
Thom

If you place something in the cage, say half of a brick or a
block of wood of the same size and dimensions the bird will get
up on it, as it seems this is a good vantage point for them to
see everything. In doing that, they don't have much real estate
to wander, so they will tend to stay still and face you, usually
with a side view! If all else fails, wait them out : )
Good luck and I hope this helps,
Paul
