Drop Trap for Buttertup

Hey Buttertup, Here are a few pictures of my drop trap. I use
the same system in all of my kit boxes. I have never lost a bird
or had a B.O.P. get in. I have used this style of trap for the
last six years. I always try to set the trap up so that when a
bird peers in it can see the other birds feeding on the floor
tray. This helps trap traing them much quicker.

Say, so you were that smart feller lol. I like this idea, and
its a heck of a lot cheaper than a traditional bob. Thanks for
posting, because I think lots of peeps starting out, and or on a
budget will see the beauty in this. This is what I am going to
use for mine.

Hey Buttertup, Naw, I'm not that smart! I borrowed the idea
myself but it works great! I hoipe it works as good for you!
Make sure to have a folding landing board to lock the trap when
not in use.

but only one bird can get in at a time. doesn't that cause a bit
of a jam up on the landing board?

Hey Steve, Not really, I can trap a 23 bird kit in under two
minutes or faster if they are hungry. I have seen examples of
double drop traps that looked more efficient for larger kits.

hi Thom,
i just may have to give it a try. I'm doing good, birds too.
Finished my first breeding season, having banded 48. i'm almost
ready to lock down, but curiously, haven't seen a bop for almost
2 weeks. strange, considering its migration, unless the
unusually warm weather has slowed the bops migration thru Long
Island. today it was below 40, so i'm sure things will change
soon enough.
stopped by rpdc because i haven't seen you at rw. hope all is
going well with you too!

I love the idea, what size of pipe elbow is that> I had a owl
come thru a Sputnick trap this year and do some damage and that
looks like a better deal.

Hey Scott, long ago and not worth talking about. :) I can be
cranky when someone talks smack about my friends.
Hey Matt, WELCOME to the site! That is a 4" x 45degree drain
coupling. I make my landing boards to be folded closing the trap
but a short nipple glued into a 4" cap works for long term
closing.
