Hey Joe, I just hope they leave Paul alone long enough to get
his young birds ready for lockdown. I at least got enough air
time to be confident in my breeding and that they will hold over
until spring.

I have flown Ruby's in every way shape or form since 2004 and I
will say this. You rarely will have a young bird not kit or not
take to the air.
I have on a few occasions for no reason at all have a bird or
two leave the kit head north and never return and that is no
Sh*t. Nothing chased them...they just left. But they were not
real young either. Who know the reason..better real estate
prices North...I dont know.
So Kitting is good....Ruby's will do it every way till
Friday...some tail ride...some flip...some do nothing and then
start jerking the chain. 4-6 months they come in....and by 13
months you know what you got ...they do not fall apart if they
reach one year. Some will get a little better over time ...I
have had a couple get a little bit faster at about the 14month
mark.....but to be honest...by 13 months you have what you have.
I do not cull a lot of birds at all. I have about 1 roll down a
year some 2 some none.....just depends. Bumpers every now and
then. As far as birds being culled for being
stupid...RARE...Kit ting...VERY RARE....Wing Position...VERY
VERY RARE TO ALMOST NEVER>.....
I have only culled for over active.....mad rolling...and that is
rare....a bird that will pull from the kit and like above very
rare.
Right now I get about 80% good birds from my Stock and when I
say good birds they will make the A or B team or could be in the
A or B and the reason they are not is because you can only fly
20 birds in comp. But I dont think that is really the Rubys, or
any other breed...I think very high % of good birds is the
breeder and selection.
Oh I will cull a bird if I fly it...breed from it and if it does
not do better then 60% good birds in the stock loft. .I put it
back in the team...I then cull if it loses its stuff...but I
will say this...I have only culled a bird one time for not being
able to enter the team and go right back where they were.
I have a little Ruby hen that Jeff Commer had for 1.5
years...had not flown.....I knew she was a rocket and I had lost
my whole A team except one bird...This was Feb of 2011....guess
what....I put her up and she was back to her old form in 6 days
of flying. She is still in the team right now....and I am
planning on pulling her for stock. She was actually in my 08
team that took 5th in the finals. I got her back because I
needed old birds from the new team I had to put together. The
birds I called my scrubs or what I had left are the same birds I
flew in this years W>C. and NBRC Fly. They are no longer
scrubs..LOL
I only breed about 30-75 birds based on losses, field promotions
or being pulled for sex and smokes in the stock loft...LOL
All you do is fly them every day..some days twice a day with
good weather. Rest them at least one day every 4 days of
straight flying..>..You keep them on mix the whole time.>>DO NOT
USE STRAIGHT WHEAT WITH RUBYS DURING TRAINING

AGAIN>>NO WHEAT>>>>Once they come into the roll then get
promoted to LIKE PERFORMANCE TEAM...NOT AGE....then and only
then do you rest them more and start playing with the wheat and
milo...but they ALWAYS GET FULL RATION OF MIX WHEN THEY COME IN
FROM FLYING>..Full Ration of mix for a Ruby is 2 cups of mix for
20 little Ruby bastards. Adjust up for cold weather....never go
below 2 cups of mix after you fly...Young or old. TRUST
ME...they will be faster rolling pigeons.
Even if you cross the Ruby's do it like they are Pure. Nothing
changes. I have bred Rubys to Scott Campbell, Chuck Roe, Mort
Emami, and Jacs and they were all real good. For some reason the
Ruby enhances other families....My Turner birds actually were
more stable when they were crossed with Ruby's....but the % was
to low of good birds....and good birds to me stay in the
kit...and I am a very picky.
As it looks now....next year will be a low breeding season if I
dont lose a whole team like years past. I have 26 in the C team
that could be in the A or B team as we speak....Age seems to be
the only difference in performance.
This years A team is only 1 bird from last years. The B and C
team became the A team.....and B team...and the C team is all
2011 and two 10's to slow the team down.
Anyway....that is all I got to say about that.
Feel free to email me with questions....as Tony will tell
you...I have flown Ruby's every which way till Sunday and I know
what works and what does not. Feeding during development will
get you the speed when they mature...alot more speed.
