I was just reading a new post . A guy hiking found over two
hundred bands in a falcons nest.
This was one of the replies.
       only 3 are in the 2000 years 1 for 2001, 1 for 2002 , and 1
for2008 the oldest band is from 1931 so that is 80 years ago
this nest has been used for about 80 years if we go by the years
on the bands, I count 31 bands in 80 years that comes to less
       then 1 bird a year

An amazing amount of bands no? I would not have thought a nest
to be in use for such a very long time. Anyway, I thought it
       interesting.

Twenty-five years ago they planted falcons on a bridge 1 mile
from me. Every year they have a few guys hang over the bridge in
one of those buckets , so they can band the babies. They gave
the name of one of the guys, so I called him and explained my
situation of the falcons taken my birds. He laughed and said now
he knows where all the pigeon bands came from. He said the nest
was full of them. I didn't think it was too funny. After 24
years of dealing with the falcons and 45 years with rollers, I
got rid of my birds last month. I wish we had an answer to our
problem, but I think it all has to do with location and until I
move I will be out of birds. I do have one piece of
satisfaction, is that they will never get another Roller from
       me.

Precisely why I had to sell all of my birds years ago, hawk
would sit ontop of my loft like it was a freaking Mickey D's. I
never had a chance, and it was a trememdous financial loss as I
had bought a building and I won't even tell you what I paid for
my birds, which was high even in the nineties, but I saved, and
bought good birds. Anyway, it is a well known story for many of
us with no real solutions. It was also a social loss, as I was
taken under by some real old-timers. ???

For three years it was unreal how many and how freeqent BOP
were. This year almost none, few atacks one bird lost.
I beleive as BOP have overpopulated they start to be very reason
for shortage of food for themself and in the end it will balance
out to the level before they were endangered and protected.

[/quote] I would like to think your right, but it won't be in
my lifetime. It has gotten worse and seems to be spreading, and
       they love rollers. :'(
