       Chesley, first Welcome! I'm late but over look me, I'm old. The
       reason the trap works is because of the landing board/cover. The
       birds can walk through but with their wings spread can not fly
       through. I have never had a bird escape or a varmint get in. I
       like things simple so if you are looking for a way to secure the
       trap, just hinge the landing board so it folds up and locks.
