I see alot of people selling young birds what is the best way to
tell what sex they are ???

Hi Scott, with my Ruby Roller line, I rely heavily on a
sex-linked mating technique using the ash red and blue series
colors to do the heavy lifting. So for example, if I breed an
ash red cock with black ticking to an ash red hen, the male
offspring will be ash red (red check, red bar, lavendar...)
carrying blue (represented by black ticking or flecking usually
on the tail and wing tips). The hen will either be ALL ash red
OR all blue (blue bar, dark check, black...).
When I breed an ash red cock to an ash red hen, all the
offspring come out ash red, I will use other physical
characteristics to determine gender (overall size, size of chest
area, tail length compared to wings, amount of nose cere, keel
bone angle and length, size and shape of secondary feathers,
size and shape of skull, etc). Same physical characteristics
apply to a blue series cock and hen.
Mistakes are made along the way, but the point is, this is how
it is generally done. :D

The method I use may not be the "best" but, it has worked for me
over the years.... I rely solely on the thread and paperclip
method. Take a piece of sowing thread about 6" long. Now tie a
paperclip to one end of the paperclip. Hold the bird in either
hand and place the tips of the wings under the birds tail. Now
with the thread in the opposite hand, hold the paperclip just
about 1/2" to 1" over the bird at the base of the tail. If the
paperclip goes in a "circular" motion....it's a hen. If the
paperclip swings from side to side, it's a cockbird. First, try
it on a bird that YOU deffinately know the SEX. I have used this
method for at least 30yrs. To me it's 100% fool proof.

No witchcraft to it, I've used the same method for years and it
works! Have no idea why but it works remarkably well.

Feed pellets .. hold in left hand with pinky out 10 inches above
forhead with head facing North .. squeze bird lightly ... left
eye hit cock.. right eye hen , googles optinial

Raul.......EXACTELY ..I remember it very well....LOL Hope this
one doesn't "go" that far..... I don't know why or how it work,
either. I just know that it works...
