Which pellet to use?

I am trying to decide which pellet to use for my breeders,
either Des Moines pellets or Purina pigeon checkers. I'd really
like to be able to feed the pellets to both my breeders and
flyers. Which one do you suggest I use? Joe

I had a really hard time regulating the kits on pellets. They
flew high and flew FOREVER!
When I cut the pellets back enough to control time I couldn't
get the height needed. I've been a long time fan of Purina
feed, but just couldn't figure it out for Rollers so I switched
over to grain.
For breeders it's an easy way to feed them and raise the squabs,
but I didn't like the smell so also switched the breeders to
whole grains. Just a personal preference there. Who knows I
might forget that by next spring and feed the pairs pellets
again.

Hey Joe, I have my breeders on nothing but Purnia Pigeon Chow
Checkers. I even feed them Checkers through the rest of the
year.Their poops are firm and have the white cap. I will say
that the hens get smelly when they come off of the nest but I
clean daily so it does not becomes a problem.

markmidemo.....Have you ever used purina nutria blend green or
gold? I have had good luck with both products. Have used purina
checkers for years but can't get it up here any longer , but the
nutria blend is carried in my local feed stores. :o Joe

I use DUMOR Poultry Layer 16% you can get it a Tractor Supply In
Texas cost $14.95 50lb. works great except for smell. May go
back to Grain.

best i have found yet are tindle 16% laying pellits made by
tindle feed mills ..

This is another one of those "topics" that you will get many
many different answers too. I am in Ohio and over the years I
have tried dozens of pellet brands, from chicken to hog to game
bird pellets. And, I haven't found one yet that doesn't have
some sort of side affects. Such as "smelly" droppings,
consumming "more" water then nornmal and a "wide" range in
prices... I guess it all comes down to personal preference and
how much you are will to pay...

Be careful using chicken layer pellets, most layer pellets have
way too much calcium for our rollers. This can cause lots of
health problems including joint swelling and liver failure.
These pellets are for chickens that lay eggs every day at least
once. I would suggest you use a pellet that is formulated for
pigeons and not chickens. They have Scientist that design these
pellets, I think they are the best authorities on this.
I use Royal 22% for my breeders, Good Luck and Keep em Flying.
