"Haha... thnks for the posts guys. So can a roller with an H
style roll possess the blur affect then or no? My guess is
no... cuz a fast H style then would just be smooth and
balanced?? Jus asumptions lol... "
George
I say yes, H style can exhibit a blur effect but only when
viewed from the side. When viewed from front/back/beneath, it
shows an H, due to the balance and wing position held by the
bird.
An X form is the most easily blurred because it blurs from the
side as well as front/back/beneath. The X wing becomes a cone
that shrinks with increasing amount of blurring. No matter the
wing position, it requires speed to blur, and speed is a good
thing.

When the speed is absent, the quality of the spin deminishes and
the birds looks like dishragging. The same is true for depth.
When the speed is absent, the bird looks like falling from the
sky.

I am with Jon on this one. Speed or velocity is a component of
quality along with style. Depth is just that, how deep do they
spin. Velocity has nothing to do with it. Quality and depth are
2 separate and distinct multipliers, at least that is how they
were intended.

You don't see a multiplier for speed. Do you? If you chose to to
assign it to only quality then you are short changing the kits.
Speed effects the depth as it effects the quality of the spin.

Not buying it!!! Speed is strictly a component of quality!
Depth is just that, 10' minimum and then score them from there.
Velocity has nothing to do with it! Depth with speed certainly
looks better than without it but that is a function of the
quality of the kit. JMHO, how many other judges out there think
that velocity should be scored as a component of depth?

That is it!! That is your argument! Bull whatever!!
We have birds are so fast they appear to drop only couple of
feets. If those birds have average speed then they will drop a
considerable 15 feet. You still say that speed don't effect
depth! Think about it logically before you respond.

Maybe we are talking past each other here. I certainly agree
that velocity can have an effect on depth or at least its
appearance but the scoring system does not take that into
account. Quality and depth are two separate and distinct
multipliers. Velocity along with style is a component of quality
in the 1-2-3 scoring system. Depth is simply and estimate of how
deep they spin or the duration of the spin. There is no Q factor
in the D factor. JMHO

Birdman hit the nail on the head.. birds that so call blur, do
so because of speed coupled with being off balance. Even so you
can still spot the wing and it is a more over all violent type
roll due to being off balance.
I'll take a true H with speed any day , if the balance is there
the wings will look like pencel lines on either side of a tennis
ball.
Jay, speed has nothing to do with a bird that looks like a
dishrag. It is all about balance or lack of. But speed will
cover faults in the roll to some degree no doubt, but it is still
there for the critical eye. If there is balance there you will
easily see the wing regardless of the speed.
As for depth. I have seen some smoken deep birds (30-40 Ft)
range .. deeper than this and they tend to loose quality due to
the depth is caused more by lack of control and they will fight
coming out , there are exceptions of course.
This is witnessed mosty by youngbirds, such birds have no value
(due to the faults in the roll)until they get a handle on it,
the good ones will shorten up once they do , the others will
simply fall apart over time.
But I have also seen birds that can hit 3 sec. and not drop alot
of depth . This is why duration to me is just as important as
actual depth, and I will take it into consideration on depth
multipler when judging.

Speed is a 100 0/0 part of the quality multiplier .. and birds
that roll with any fault in the roll should never be scored.
Regardless of the speed.

Scott, what about style and smoothness? Are they not part of the
Q multiplier as well?
