Clear droppings

Goodmorning all, I was just out feeding my birds this morning
and noticed a dropping that was basically clear. There was a
small amount of " normal " poop surrounded by a clear liquid.
Did a little research and found this may, or may not be an
issue. Anyone know if it is a major concern or not? They had all
been given a four in one last month, but no wormer.

It likely isnt an issue unless it becomes persistant and birds
lose weight.
Why did you ise 4-n-1? If you treated for a specific condition,
great, follow up with a probiotic.
If you used it as part of a annual maintenance, please stop. You
should only use antibiotics to treat a known condition. It does
the birds no good to give them antibodies when they're healthy.
It creates drug resistant strains of microbes, and it ultimately
weakens the resistance ability of your flock.

4n1 is not antibiotic! It is 4 medications mixed in one
treatment. This medication is for people who don't know how to
diagnose pigeon issues. It is the easy way!! However, after a
while, you will learn that the most common disease is
Coci...about 90% of the time. So your odds are better to treat
for that and using only antibiotics such as Ammoxillian or
Bytril. Even ecoli or salmonella are bacterial infection which
is also treated with antibiotics. To resolve the problem of
creating drug resistant strains of microbes is simple. Purchase
the Ammoxllian and Bytril and alternate when given to the birds.
Don't abuse them, use them wisely.

Baytril, the best medicine for cocci and para is no longer on
the market. You can only get it through a vet if you can find
one that will prescribe it.

to kill or reduce the growth of any infectious agent, including
viruses, fungi and parasites. A substance that interferes with a
particular step of cellular metabolism, causing either
bactericidal or bacteriostatic inhibition; sometimes restricted

4-n-1 is antibiotic. Most of them for sale contain 2
anti-bacterials for combatting E-coli. and Salmonella plus a
metronidazole or derivative for combating canker (Trichmoniasis)
and a treatment for respiratory infections such as Tylan or its
like medicine. The problem with treating with these combination
medications is you are giving an antibiotic for something your
bird isnt sick from. Additionally, these formulations are dosed
at the minimum, safest levels and therefore arent highly
effective and widely overused. Therefore creating drug treatment
resistant forms of microbes.
You are right Jay A. Pigeon illnesses can be difficult to
diagnos AND in majority of cases are caused by one of a few
primary infectious agents; E-coli or Salmonella. Preventative
medicine in form of probiotics, acidified loft conditions (ACV),
vitamin/mineral supplements and good houskeeping (clean and dry)
are the best.

You clowns have no idea what my background is. I'm sorry if your
momma didn't breast feed you long enough so you have to knock
other people to make yourselves feel good. If you don't know the
answer to a post leave it alone. Don't go off spouting your
piety so you can feel smart.

;D Hi Cgosch, I don't think anyone was knocking you, simply
offering advice and input. This IS a discussion board after all.
I honestly think everyone was trying to help out. What you
probably had a hard time with is the approach or their style.
Don't be so hard, I am sure no harm was meant.
If the situation persists, consider sending stools samples to
Foys to have a smear done. Otherwise, read up on the problem
like you did and determine the best approach to treat your
birds.
No one here is a veterinarian and any advice is for
informational purposes and anecdotal. For a proper diagnosis,
see a qualified veterinarian. Good luck! :D

Hi Jay, I think I explained that no harm was meant, he can take
it or leave it, I hope he accepts the explanation...except now,
you have by your comment, probably thrown some fuel on a fire I
was trying to put out.... ::) oh well...such are Internet
discussion sites. ;D
