Thanks, Jeff. This same team won our World Cup Regionals in the
Spring. Now if I can just keep them together a few more weeks!

I am happy for you and wish your birds do well you have put a
lot into this. But on the other hand again still no
communication between any of us if you all were firemen all you
would save is the footers. When you all left my place you and
Jay Y told me you would keep me updated as to how others did. A
phone call would have been nice or at least an EM. It is like I
have been saying our region is very selective to a chosen few.
Anyway good luck give them hell.

Steve,
Thanks for the good wishes for our region in the finals. I hope
this team will represent our region well. As to the
communication ( and friendship), I have found that it works best
when it goes both ways. The more interest you show in others by
getting out and attending their flies.... by calling others to
find out what is happening in the region...the more others will
call you, and the more communication is shared. If you feel
slighted, yet you stay at home and don't get out to other guy's
houses when they fly....and you sit around and wait for others
to call you and come to see your birds...you will tend to be
left out at times. There is NOBODY in ANY region, our own
included, who has that luxury. I have judged six states from
Michigan to Florida since I left your house, and all the while
trying to keep the comp team in shape, battling with the World
Cup Executive Committee to try to get a Performance Standard in
place, and written two articles for the NBRC Bulletin. So, like
you, I stay pretty busy. Yet I have had Tim Rakes, Wendall, and
other guys come by to fly birds on weekends when I'm home. (and
believe it or not I still find time to keep my lady happy and
content! LOL!) So, for me, forgetting to call someone doesn't
mean that I don't value their friendship, and my good friends
know that. I have enjoyed getting out to your place to see your
birds for the World Cup and the NBRC Championship each year, and
you are steadily improving with those Jacs, every year. (I
really liked those white birds off that red-mottle pair in this
year's kit!) Hopefully you will be interested enough in others
to return that favor and get out to some of the other guys, to
see our birds, and support the region in that way as well. Have
a good fall and winter and don't feed that kit to the hawks!
Yours in the Sport,
Cliff

Hi Steve. I am a new flyer like yourself but am probably alot
further behind than you are as I've yet to actually compete.
What I will say about your post is that you cannot wait for all
the guys in your region to get in contact with you and call you
or email you about alot of things because like you, they're
probably very busy with alot of things.
As the new guy (which I am myself), you must put yourself out
there. Send out the emails, make the phone calls, stay in
constant communication. It is not a good idea to call out your
regional members on a public forum like this UNLESS you've tried
to get in contact with them and none of them have gotten back to
you.
I will let you know this, you are very lucky to be in flying in
your region. While I may live in Wisconsin, I know this because
I was there. I visited Joe Bob Stuka, Jay Yandle, Cliff Ball,
and Clay Hoyle. Everyone was very accommodating and I had never
met or really talked with any of these men with the exception of
Cliff Ball. They let me into their lofts, gave me advice, and
basically every guy I visited offered me birds (and I accepted).
The point of this post is to let you know that you must put alot
of effort into this hobby to get what you want out of it.
I've traveled to Minnesota making the 3-6 hour drives twice to
make the rounds and get to meet the guys. By doing so, the
fellas in both WI and MN know that I am serious about this
hobby. I call my RD for the fly schedules and then the fly
reports EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T FLY because I want to know when
everyone is flying so I can go and see the guys AND so I know
what the outcome is. Again, you have to make some effort too.
You can't sit back and wait for your RD to contact you. If you
want to know something, go out and seek it. It will benefit you
in the long run Steve.
I hope you didn't take anything that happened or didn't happen
to heart but I do hope you take this post to heart. From one
relatively new guy to another, if we show we are serious in
wanting to gain friendships in the hobby, we shall receive it.
Good luck Steve and don't give up on those guys yet. I live
over 1000miles away yet whenever I call Joe Bob or Clay or Jay
or Cliff, when they do pick up, they give me their time of day
so you just gotta keep chugging.
Yours in our hobby,
Tou Yang

First let me say I am sorry for looking at my thoughts on this
region with on e set of eyes. After hearing others on this
subject I now see I am wroung in the way I have been thinking.
When I first got into this hobby I spent my first two years with
you and others going to everyone's lofts to include yours a
bunch of times. I also went to Joe Mitchells many times and also
Chucks, and Wendals and Charlie Stack. Many times to Tim Rakes
Lofts and Danny Horners Lofts mainly because of they are so
close. I have enjoyed every visit I made to everyone's Lofts and
you all are right if I want to be a part of the Regional I
should get more involved and I will do just that. If I have
caused anyone any problems and made anyone upset I am sorry this
was not my intent. I just wanted to be part of something and I
was going at it in the wrong way. If there is anything I can do
let me know, I will also keep the line of communication open on
my end. I am seriously thinking of putting on a Fall BQ at my
place on my dime if all is intrested I can make it happen.
Sorry Again
Steve Meyers
