This week vs Last week

Last week I was ready to make a potpie with the whole lot of
them. They were flying but that was about all, just putting in
their time. This morning the cock kit was bang on! Good breaks,
a few deep birds and plenty of action. The changes I made really
seem to be working! So I thought I would share the secrete. Here
is exactly what I done that made the difference. Nothing, they
fixed themselves! Same feed, same flying pattern, same rest
pattern, I changed nothing. So why the big difference? They are
finishing the molt and starting to jell as a team. The countless
airtime when I wanted to pull my hair out, if I had hair! J The
boring waiting for them to mature. All of the things I can do
little about except suffer with them all add up. Patience is the
game that I play the worst. The rush to judgment cost my birds
until I learned the simple act of waiting. Learning patience is
as important as feed, flying, rest, all of the care and worry we
place in our birds but it also is the hardest.

Thom .. Augest on into Sept. is like the dead zone for me where

Thom, I agree. I've been watching these birds fly circles
around me and the loft with few flips.
Last evening FINALLY a few started the roll. One little blue
check cock really put on a show. A bit sloppy, but it's a
start! I look forward to the coming weeks!
Of course, now the younger kit is still trying my patience,
those birds are all over the sky but slowly by ones and twos
they are moving to form a kit.
Lord, grant me patience. I need it!

hay thom and guys
i got a bop setting on on my neighbor chicken pen and my loft
last week and the week and 1/2 (half) he/she was setting on the
power line from the pole and the house and i lock them up every
since and i'm hoping he/she will more on he/she got 14 during
the summer and its my folt i wasn't paying attend to the birds
(how dum can i be)????????????donnie james p.s. i might fly the
birds in a couple weeks hoping he/she will move on

Thom so you did nothing and they're flying better this week.
Thom do you think the weather had anything do with it? Last week
we had a low pressure system approaching (Irene), this week your
sitting under a high pressure dome, superb flying conditions.

we'll that will make for a good week!! I'd be curious to know if
you think what soundrollers mentioned about the weather from
this week to last playing a big part in things. I think your
stratagy is brilliant. yeah that was a joke, but ther's a
kernal of truth in it too. How often do we jump the gun on a
decision from feed, to culling, to changing a mating, etc, etc,
when the smart thing is to sit back, observe and continue to
evaluate. I think "stock sense" as has been mentioned in recent
threads, has a component of knowing when to pull the trigger
quickly on something that isn't working and when to continue to
observe and evaluate. I'd say enjoy your birds Thom, but I

Thom, Back in 1978 I wrote a fancier that was well known and
asked to buy some birds. he wrote me back and said he didn't
have any at that time. He gave me ten points on raising and
flying rollers. The 1st was patience, I don't remember the next
six, but the last three were patience, patience , and
patience... very good advice.. Your right , very hard to follow,
at least for me, but I'm getting better. Glad to hear the birds
are shaping up..

Scott nailed it! I think the weather, and being closer to
finishing the molt plus many other reasons played a part but
mostly it was just time. I become impatient this time of year
and question my feeding, flying, even breeding program. To make
adjustments they have to be kitting and preforming enough to
have a base line. Trying to correct an unstable kit will lead to
frustration. My point was to allow the molt to finish and good
kit formation before making any judgements or corrections.
Paul, Bigtime! I love the riddle the birds provide and their
warm little bodies in my hands.
