Lines are developed around a key pigeon.. once you find that key
pigeon and build a line off of it then takes on what you do
through selection .. once you hit this point you no longer need
to ask if they are your pigeons or not .. nor do you need
another pigeon outside of your loft.. nor do you want one unless
it is a pair or something from someone elses line just to see
whats there.
Most just collect pigeons though and it is obvious by looking at
the stock... there just simply are no shortcuts .. a decade is
nothing where these birds or establishing a line is concerned

Cliff, are you using a 'line breeding' system for your rollers?
i ask, because i've just begun my breeding program, and i want
to be sure I've got the right plan. and you mentioned that you
don't cross your campbell and turner familes, so i was thinking
you must be line breeding or something close. btw, thanx for the
info on the moxidectin.

Scott,
We are in total agreement on this one. I used 2 related hens as
key birds to build both branches of my family. I generally keep
the branches straight but occasionally breed birds from each
side of the family together when it seems like the thing to do.
Both of the key hens went directly back to birds that came from
Paul Vaughn in the 80s and were closely related.
Keep em spinning

I also chime in on Scott's and Joe's point. In this age of
instant gratification "some" will always try to buy the current
popular contest or loft's best. When what they really need is to
breed, learn and FLY their own no matter where the start came
from.
Take care my friends

Couldn't agree with you more. My birds come from Richard
Jaconette's line, but of course I didn't aquire them straight
from him. Danny Horner took root with that line and has done
outstanding with it since Mr. Jaconette. I received my birds
from a rollerman here in Kentucky, who aquired them from Mr.
Horner. All three men have bred this line in their own way.
When I first got into rollers, I had no idea of the bloodlines
that were out there, I just luckily stumbled onto some decent
birds on my first go around. Since then, I flew out the young
birds I aquired, bred out of the pair that performed the best,
and it's all took off from there.
I've only been into the roller hobby for a few short years, but
I am already enjoying the fruits of my perseverance and labor.

crossed.
