Hey LaRon, this particular thread is relating to what people in
general, think are the kind of percentages that might be
expected from the breeding pairs of experienced and successful
competitors. Not so much about why we raise rollers at all
and/or doing your own thing...conflating not allowed. ;)
The results of polling and the comments ought to be informative
for those looking to compete and provide a valuable insight in
which to compare their own stock birds in the future. :-*

As long as you double up in quality when mating,
you would not have to worry about percentages. Doubling up means
that the cock and hen have the same strengths in quality, depth
and work rate. Remember that the apple don’t fall too far from
the tree. When I breed for the season and let’s say I bred close
to 100 birds, all I need by the end of season is 2 good
qualities and of competition caliber kits (40 birds). The
remaining are done for, whether they are roll down, flippers,
culls or eaten by BOP has no bearing at my end results. When I
compete and open the kit box, that is what is being judged and
viewed by all participants, not what I culled or lost.
