       POLL: Breeders=Percents=Kit Birds
By: Tony Chavarria Date: July 8, 2011, 11:18 am
       ---------------------------------------------------------
If the goal is to fly 20 quality rollers in competition,
consider why it should matter that the parents of those kit
birds be out of high percentage producers in contrast to kit
birds coming from a pair that say has to produce twice as many
to get the same quality 20 bird kit...or does it not matter?
MUST BE LOGGED IN TO VOTE AND VIEW POLL RESULTS

To obtain 20 quality rollers you have to go thru the process of
finding those birds out of any off-spring raised. So I don't
think if really matters who the parents are.

Hello Ozzie, what do you think the percentage should be for a
specific proven pair? There are those who say the percentages
should be high so you do not have to raise so many...would like
to see your vote in the poll, want to see what the majority
thinks is the best percentage. Thanks!

Tony.. you can get pairs that produce a high percentage of
stable quality birds , the problem is getting a stock loft full
       of them.
It takes no less than 3 years to proove out the true value of a
pigeon .. and they don't last forever.
Even longer to proove that the prodigy also produce. Click pairs
have little value other than short term. The key is identifying
pre potent birds that produce on most anything. Such pigeons
tend to also produce a small percentage of their like.
As for a quality 20 bird team. It isn't done in a single season
, it takes time to build , adjust , and build more. Than you
couple that with losses from over flys, BOPs and stocking it
makes it extreamly difficult to build a truely good team.

Hey Scott, I agree, to prove a kit bird, 2 years in the air is
to be expected, to become a proven breeder, it must produce
sufficient quantity of youngsters and they must be flown out as
       well (add 2 more years).
Now breed this same bird (say its a cock), to a sufficient
number of hens to prove prepotentcy can take how many more
years!? A pre-potent bird is extremly rare.
As for building a good a-team, I agree, in my best teams I have
flown for my purposes, they tend to be of birds anywhere from 1
       to 5 years old.

       Tony,
To be able to come with a pre-protein foundation pair you'll
need to research and/or expereince each individual of family
line....My opinion, a pre-protein bird will throw a few baby
that will produce pre-protein....However it'll take decade to
experience different line. You know what they say...any family
have twin more chance the baby will have twin too....

Hey Tony out of a proven pair you would expect a high percentage
of birds to be of good quality maybe 50% ? But I think 30% is
       more realistic.

Hey Jay, you are correct, locating a prepotent bird is a long
slog, but imagine the reward when finally finding one? Like gold
       in the hand, right? ;D

Hey Ozzie, so in your view, is the lower percentage (30%) a
result of losses in training or that the birds just can't line
up the genetic factors properly to produce higher percentages?

I like your question because I have stated a million times goals
vary from loft to loft. But based on your question it would not
matter if you bred the kits birds or not . Your objective based
on your criteria is to just get 20 birds that are performing
       together by any means possible.
