help on ybs...

i need help on my young bird kit...
they dont fly high enough and they always tend to circle around
and then land...
what can i do to make them fly higher???

If you are just recently starting them out in the kit box, then
that is normal. If you have been flying for say a month or so,
then, you need to start adjusting feed and feed amounts to
increase fly time. Another thing with young birds; it helps
tremendously to fly an old hen with them (a hen having no bad
habits). The old hen gives them some one to kinda show them the
ropes.

robbie10 u might also try taking them down street a block or so-
if that doesn't help add little more distance - when mine start
that -will take them up to 3/4 mile to get flying time up to
over 20 min. make sure you are not over or under feeding-1 cup
of good high protein feed for 10 birds in my loft until they are
around 6 mo. old then to 1/2 wheat 1/2 milo for 10 birds may

Please tell us how you are handling them. When do you fly, how
much and what do you feed, are they all about the same age,
Hatched about the same time? It could be you are doing
everything right. It takes TIME for a kit to start to fly, some
strains may take more or less time.
Enjoy watching them mature into Rollers, there are several
different phases, the Rollers must pass through. Just like a
child must first crawl before they can walk and walk before they
can run. Be patient.

i fly them in the morning....
i feed then a half cup of feed for every ten birds...
and yes they are all about the same age mabe a couple of weeks
apart...
and yes i tried that taking them out down the street
sometimes...
and so what shoudl i be doing to help them fly longer??

Just my opinion, but I would increase the feed to 2 tablespoons
of feed per bird and add an old hen to the kit if you have one.

Robbie,
I agree with whitewing....up their ration to one cup 50-50 wheat
and milo per 11 birds (I use a Vienna sausage can in the summer
and a full measuring cup in the winter. The Vienna sausage can
is slightly less than a cup). Just be patient and stay with
it....keep flying them in the mornings....on weekends haul their
butts down the street for release.....feed them the same ration
of a good mix of grains on the weekends......they'll elevate as
it gets cooler.
