Backyard, I like the bird and would raise some of it's young and
fly them out.
Young birds under a year should get all they want, yearlings
viries from 11/2 to 2 tbs. depending on condituion, breeders and
squabs all they want.

What should feed consist of? I am currently mixing cracked corn,
chicken scratch grains, and chicken laying pellets (for added
protein) is this ok? or what should i change?

Backyard, I might get fussed at about this but it is how I feel.
First, stop the cracked corn, it can scratch their throats and
cause canker. Second, I feed my pigeons like I feed myself. I'm
not going to eat dog food and I'm only going to feed my pigeons,
pigeon food. Go to your local feed store and get a mixed 16%
pigeon feed for now. Feed the young birds 1 1/2 to 2 tbs. each.
if they do not clean it up in short order, then cut back a
little at a time until they do. Later after you have time to
study and make up your mind you can change the routine to suit
yourself. The mix is not ideal for all situations but will
nurish them and cause no harm. Also get a few pounds of pigeon
grit and give them a small amount once a week with their feed.

Backyard, I wanted to clarify about the corn. You will read
about fanciers giving their birds corn in the winter to help
keep the birds warm. They are talking about pop corn, not whole
or cracked field corn. I feed my breeders nothing but pigeon
pellets but I heat my brood loft. My young birds or yearlings
get 1/3 pigeon pellets, 1/3 hard red wheat, and 1/3 milo but I'm
contemplating changing the milo for peas. I do want to take this
opportunity to caution you about restricting the feed on young
birds. They are growing and need ample nutrition to grow muscle.

I feed my bird the yellow corn in the winter. The large size
corn that you purchase to feed deers in the fall. They gobble it
up like nothing and before any other grain.
