Dog Doc, this is just my opinion! Breed from those 3pr and fly
the heck out of the young ones produced! Tony has put great
effort and bred this family of birds for many years. I can
assure you from my own personal expereance with them that you
will get a few birds from the breeding that given time in the
air will show you the goods! The genetics are there which is
why I said you made a wise descion! Not all of the birds you
produce will be stars in the air! And not all stars picked from
the air and bred from will produce performers of like
quality! Even the best compeditors/breeders breed their share of
culls. Bill Pensoms book is a great basic book to read, True
Spinning Rollers 2 in my opinion has more meat for you to chew
on! The greatest book you will ever read is the one that you,
given time and experiance will write yourself! You and many
others like me a novice, are always searching every nook and
cranny for useful information that will with time and practical
application lead us to the betterment of our minds in the ever
learning successes and failures of flying and breeding these
little winged wonders.
To begin with if you are a novice and you are a member of this
site you have already made a wise and fruitful 1st step! This
site is in my opinion the”University of the Birmingham Roller,
and here you will find all of the Professors whose combined
years of knowledge and experiences will aide all novices in
their quest to learn! The camaraderie is not bad either, lol!
The most important tools a novice needs to invest in for his
venture in theRoller hobby is the best foundation stock one can
afford, from a breeder who has put in many years with his line
of birds, and if the breeder is genuine be willing to be
available to the novice should he require help and advice! I was
fortunate to have discovered such a breeder who has supplied me
with both good foundation stock and has endured the constant
badgering from me for help and advice! Thank you Tony!
The foundation birds you choose today will ultimately influence
your family of birds for years to come! When choosing yours
stock birds for breeding, and if the birds were tested in the
air, always bear in mind that the birds you have chosen as
breeders, will only potentially have the ability to produce
birds that are just as good or better. Not all birds produced
will be of top quality even though their parents are good tested
flyers, this I have observed this year with 2 nest mates! In the
beginning of their training they were equally on par with each
other but as their flying time was increased it was obvious that
one of the nest mates a hen just did not have what it takes to
be a good and reliable performer, so ultimately she was culled!
Leave no room in your loft for birds of mediocre quality as they
will not improve!! Sticking with one family of birds, that is
close in Phenotype and genotype will give you a better average
of good birds. The mixing of different family’s of birds in my
opinion will take years of unravelling the genetic mishmash and
countless disappointments that will inevitably bring the average
quality of the better family to a lesser degree in performance
and uniformity! Once you have gained the knowledge on how to
recognize birds of quality in the family you are working with
and you are choosing wisely which birds will be your foundation,
you will be almost at the finish line!!
Good birds and I will repeat good birds will only give you
results if you recognize that you are the trainer/coach
responsible for success or failure!! If you lack discipline your
“team” will lack discipline! You must learn the basics of
breeding, training and feeding your athletes” It is your
responsibility to make the daily observations and changes needed
to ultimately in time have your kit ready for a compition fly
should you choose to do so!
Be patient, be patient, and be patient! I find myself having to
constantly remind myself of this virtue, so at times I must have
a nice chilled glass of white wine LOL! In some cases it’s not
me training the young birds, but it’s them who are training me
LOL! Their little brains through years of breeding and test
flying are genetically programmed if bred correctly to do what
they are bred to do; yours however is not therefore you must
learn from them how to recognize what they are trying to tell
you lol!
How successful one wants to become in this hobby is up to the
individual, in how much time and effort we are willing to spend.
Most importantly have fun with them; it’s only a hobby, a means
of relaxation!

Raul, well said! I agree with almost everything Raul said. The
exception would be the White wine ::) , I prefer Red but
chilled is good. ;D

Paul,
I appreciate the correction.But like a lot of my
generation, I'm basically computer illiterate and sometimes,
just getting a post to this point,DRIVES ME CRAZY.
