I've heard that you don't want a bird with flight feathers that
are too long. It supposedly gives them more soaring ability and
keeps them out gliding for extended periods of time, rather than
performing. Haven't tested this much myself though.

Absolutly it plays in .. I want to see thin primaries and
       shorter thin secondaries

I agree with Scott, except I like to see a 'step' in the
primarly flight wide at the base and stepping down to a thinner
feather about mid length. I like short strongly arched
secondaries with minimal back cover from the inner most
       secondaries.

I also prefer a slightly longer flight over a short wing. This
is sometimes refered to as 'longer cast'. I dont like a short
stubby appearance from side view of tail and wings.

Scott, can you explain why you prefer those types of wings?

Jon actualy described it in greater detail on into cast.. but I
point out thiner type secondaries due to when it comes to speed
and quality I can almost pick off of the perch as utmost
       potential.
Keep in mind you have everything inbetween also with many
factors that affect this or that, the wider secondaries seen to
follow suit with softer type feather which is also looser. Tight
harder feathered birds over all are my best, but they like to
fly also. Frequency tends to follow softer feather also to some
       degree.
It evolves at least in part to airflow and wing action. You here
of the "butterfly wing beat" . Honestly this is not what I want
for my birds. I want them up a click or two from that for
utmost quality where my birds are concerned. Condition is what
       dictates wingbeat with my birds.
       .
