I have Horner's Jacs for 8 years now along with other birds from
other families. They are good birds. They do tend to sky out if
you don't watch the feed. They sky out because they love to
fly...rain or shine. Many fanciers think feed fits all. The
Horners Jacs don't do well on wheat/milo for general feeding.
Once you figure out how to keep them flying at a reasonable
hight and reasonable time, then you can say you have a handle on
them. Otherwise, you will get discouraged and giveup. They are
       good kitters.

This year I got two pairs from Don Simpson to breed. If you ever
watched Don Simpson birds fly, then you know how excited I was
when he offered them to me. I have seen depth and I have seen
style all over the country, but nothing like Don's. I Have two
pair youngsters in the kitbox and two pairs are about to go to
the kitbox. If those birds work out for me as they work for Don,
then all the birds I have will be given away and starting over
       with Don's.

Jay, where did Don's foundation birds come from?
They must be some good birds if you're willing to start over
       with them!!

They come from the old Almond line. Read Cliff's article about
Jim Turner in the article section and you will know the story
       behind his line.

Jay . Don told me matter of factly that they come all the way
down in the 2nd year and didn't seem to bother him .
I'm kind of curious how these work out for you in the long run.
It seems with my own birds the young superstars that like
       locking it up rarely last.

I have a pair of birds that Don gave me, as well, five years
ago. They have produced a few birds that have been in my
competion team for several years. I have not seen them
deteriorate in two years. I have not gotten high percentages
from them, but they did produce a nice 60 foot shrinker that is
one of the most outstanding individual performers that I have
seen. I used him to educate new fliers as to what a shrinker
looks like, because it was so easy to see. I have to believe
that there must have been some commmunication there....like
perhaps he means that the real deep birds don't hold up for more
than two years...I'll ask him.....maybe you're right Scott.

I got 8 youngsters from those two pairs Scott. I will tell you
next season how would they hold up.
