Joe I have stood under kits with every foreign judge, and never
have I not seen them score a solid legit quality break. Legit
breakes simply cannot be denied. The fact is though many want
these birds scored by a lower standard.
(Personally I think we have sold the farm with the foreign
judges with their own standard and agendas. JMHO
Keep em spinning
Joe)

since the discrepancies between regional scores and finals is
glaring, maybe we should investigate the possibility of having a
certifcation for Judges? its not rocket science either, a RD
tries to find a judge willing to judge his region. distance has
to be factored, as that effects the cost of flying the judge in.
with limited nuimbers of flyers, an RD might have to eliminate
some choices of judges simply due to financial constraints and
limited support among his regions flyers. I too fly to support
our region, knowing full well my hodge podge of birds bred by
others is not really competitive. I really think the quality and
experience of certain judges will bring out more flyers. then
again, we need to get some of the guys who simply keep saying
their birds are just not good enough, RIGHT NOW. i say, either
compete with what you've got now, or don't complain when your
region can't find someone to be RD. ask flyers where a local
club's numbers have dropped off or completely disappeared how
they feel. sure, we can all just fly for ourselves, in our own
yards, but that totally eliminates the competitive edge and fun
of sharing with others the same love we have for our rollers.

In regards to the multiplyer, it is simple and fair if applyed
in prospective. Different judges do different things, but the
way I handle it took allot of thought and analysis just to be
fair to all. Here is my piece:
We all know that no kit will ever win on raw
score alone and if anybody want to debate it, then they need to
do the math and it will lead them to that conclusion. For this
reason, the quality multiplier plays a big role in scoring kits,
whether good or bad kits. It will differentiate between the
good, the bad and the ugly.
The way I see things is that we, as NBRC club,
recognize three spinning styles or categories. Those are the X
winger, the H winger, and the () wing style. However, the "A"
frame is just the best of H wing style, and the Baseball is just
the best of () style. For each one category listed above, there
are three subcategories associated with it. Those subcategories
are good, better, and best. So lets assign a quality multiplier
to each category/subcategory and see what we get...shall
we!!
X winger ===> (Good = 1.1, Better = 1.2, Best =
1.3)
H Winger ===> (Good = 1.4, Better = 1.5, Best =
1.6)
() Winger ===> (Good = 1.7, Better = 1.8, Best =
1.9)
We will leave 1.0 to the absolute lousy and 2.0
to the absolute perfection. However, I have never seen a perfect
kit ever due to being far in between. I truly believe that the
NBRC forefathers who set the scoring roles and the multiplier
from 1.0 to 2.0 had what I have listed above in mind.

Jay,
The thing I liked about your judging style is that you had a
system rather than just flying by the seat of your pants. And
you are capable of describing it and putting it down on paper.
The problem is that many of us, as judges, have only a vague
notion of a distinct system of granting the Q and D.

I couldn't agree more, Steve. No matter how we feel about the
difference between the Regional scores and the Final scores,
there is no reason to have the Regional scores all ove the board
like they are. This is simply a reflection of the lack of a
standard, the lack of training, and the lack of certifying
judges.
