I lost a few more birds.... Really getting discouraged...

Hello:
Did you lose them to a BOP or did you fly them off? All roller
flyers have lost a kit or two, just keep on plugging away and
learn from the pigeons, they will teach you.......Glenn

They just flew off... one or two at a time... even at a
tablespoon of feed... these birds were a family... Norwood.

It happens to everyone. May I ask how long have had the birds?

A couple of thoughts:
(1) Get them on the wing a little earlier.......Have you ever
flown a kit before?
(2) keep the age groups the same while you are training and be
as consistent as you can while training them.
(3) Watch what you feed...12% (no corn)is ok for flyers...cut
that with wheat and or milo as they begin to mature and fly
together.
(4) Watch out for the odd cock who will cut across the kit and
try to turn them.....pull that bird and the kit will be better
for it.
(5) Observe the birds while they are flying, they will teach
you.........Did you breed the birds you lost?

3 months now.... Got them as Squeakers.

(1) Yes I've had birds off and on since I was 12...
(2) These were all the same age.
(3) I had them on pretty much wheat and milo once they started
flying.
(4) I did notice one of the birds cutting and dashing...
especially once they were in the air and look like they were
started to kit.... He would zip and dart like crazy... I just
thought it was all part of the process due to them being yb's
and someone told me it takes a while for them to start kitting
right.
(5)No they are from a guy i know...
Here is from a post a while ago when I first started loosing
them and will help explain my process:
1st 2 weeks of having them I feed them all the time by leaving
the feeder inside, 3rd week I pulled the feeder and fed them 2
twice a day with each time shaking a feed can, by the fourth
week I started sitting them on the roof of the cage for a few
hrs a day and also started training them to trap. 5th week I
started letting a few out at a time to let them get a lay of
the land and a few weeks later I started flagging them to fly.
I had seven yb's to start with and now I'm down to four....
Which happened to be the 3 lavender's out the bunch, 2 were nest
mates and the other was closely related. I noticed they were a
little harder to trap but I really didn't think nothing of it.
As they all started flying those three stayed up longer than the
others... A LOT longer and and they took longer to trap, I lost
the first one because it went up real high and far, the other 2
were taken by hawks and both times I spotted the hawks and
called them all in and of'course they all came down except
those, since I've lost them my other birds are great... Did I
miss a step in my training or was this just a family of birds
with bad habits/genes?
After I lost a few I cut back on feed even more a tablespoon a
bird. None lost to hawks, Over fly or bad weather... they just
would take off.
Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

hey dell, don't be discourage and i know how you feel as i was
in the same position as you were when i first started with my
portable. i would suggest only feeding them once a day and be
consistent and strict. if they are really hungry then they'll
stick around and make sure that the only place they get to eat
and be fed is inside your kitbox, hope all goes well!

another family than the four that you have left.If so they

dell,
Just consider it part of the learning process....you are going
to lose birds....there's no way around it. Best thing is to keep
them "at arms length" and not get too attached to them. Keep
reading and talking with other guys that keep this family of
rollers to get their advice.
