       Handrearing weaker young bird

I was never in favour of raising a weaker young bird by hand.
Reading some of the older posts I know I am not the only one to
feel this way. I have a 1999 Hen and a 1997 cock and retired
them to their own little corner, as neither of them were
productive any more. I was surprised when after 2 months the hen
laid a egg. The surprise was even bigger when this egg hatched.
This pair were the only birds I had out of my foundation cock.
The young bird was left in the nest after 2 weeks. I raised it
by hand. It is now in my young bird kit and starting to show the
same potential that I saw in the parents 10 years ago. I don't
regret raising this bird, but will it be of the same breeding
quality as the parents? This might change my opinion on rearing
       weaker birds.

Charles.... If it is showing what you saw in it's parents, and
that is the only thing left of that mating, and you are happy
with what you see, by all means shut it down and breed. That
might be a foundation stock bird of you future. If cooper gets
it you will never ever be able to follow that line again. :'(

Very simply put..... I don't hand raise "ANYTHING" for any
       reason. Not a good practice
