the
question started off asking about feeding BREEDERS. How did it
changed to feeding FLYERS.....lol Stick to the original post
matter.
My breeders start off as "flyers",they eat a mixture of regular
pigeon feed while flying..... and I have never had a problem
with them picking out individual grains during the time that
they "fly". I "don't" over feed during the time I breed my
birds, thus "no" waste problems.... Just my thoughts... DON'T
get upset...

Purina NutriBlend Green is very good pellets especially for
breeders. The only thing of caution for very specific flyers,
the main ingredient is corn and most competitive flyers stay
away from corn. It's also very high in protein, 18%.
Pellets is the way to go not to waste. The negatives are that
they drink more water and the droppings tend to be softer/not as
solid either.

2Y4....By the way,Corn is not the main ingredient in Purina
Nutria Blend Green. It is a balance mix and kit birds work very
well on a study diet of NBG. ::) Joe

This is the original question... What is the best, less
wasteful feed for breeders?
It states "breeders"....nothing to do with "flyers". Again
stick to the topic...
And corn is "not" the main ingredient in Purina pellets... its
a mixture of grains and supplements.
As far as competive flying goes.... I have never heard of any
com flyers that feed "pellets" to their com birds.....(noway of
controlling them).
Better do more research befor making statements like these...

Hi windjammer, I respectfully submit the following... if I
remember correctly, Paul Fullerton adds pellets to his comp mix.
He and his brother (I think is a chemist) developed a high
nutrition feed regimen that includes pellets. Paul has a
background as a weightlifter and is somewhat experienced in the
changes in diet has on performance...
Maybe Paul can check in here and provide some additional info
about what he does...perhaps he could start a new topic to
discuss feed and using pellets for performance. Or better yet, I
will get one started later

I have seen breeders who feed nothing but pellets to their
breeders. From what I understand, usually a feeder is placed on
a tray to catch what ever they throw out and once the feeder is
empty then they clean up what pellets are left on the tray.
There bigger the tray ... the better.
The pellets are very easy for the breeders to feed the young
and a good balance of nutrients. Personally, I add pellets to a
grain mix.
By the way, if one has a chicken under the pigeons to clean up
what is tossed off the tray and you are in need of fresh
eggs..... A win / win situation happens!

Thanks Tony for your input on my comment. I know their are
always "exceptions" to the rule and now that you brought that to
my attention, I do remember reading Paul's comment on feeding
pellets. But, in general "Com" flyers don't usually feed
pellets. That's all I was trying to say..

Royal 22% pellets work great for breeders. Like they said in an
earlier post, they drink more water and the poop is looser, but
you end up with healthy squabs. They drink more water due to the
increased Sodium in the pellets.

I use a opened loft for my breeders so there is
no waste.
I use winners cup and all my babies are healthy. For my flyers I
use winners cup and dove and quail 5050 mix I raise fireballs
and ruby roller.
