       baby feathers

I have a baby that almost died at about a week old. The nest
mate fared better because it was a couple of days older. For
some reason the mother did not sit on them at night and appeared
not to have fed the smaller of the two. I thought the smaller
was dead but detected a movement so I put them both under a
light to warm them up and fed them. I have been hand feeding
them for the second week. The older seems to be doing well.
The smaller seems ok but doesn't seem to be growing many
feathers. It is actually bald on the head, butt, and in front of
the wings. It does have some coming out of the wings and chest
area. What do you think. Jon

It should continue to feather out if it is healthy. If not may
be a lost cause and should be culled

I had a chick , it was a little yellow dot, that fell out of the
nest box during the night. It fell about six feet onto the bare
wood floor. The temp was probably around forty overnight.
When I went in the next morning checking on the babies I
discovered he was missing. Looked behind the nest bowl, around
the nest box and then on the floor. My foot was less than an
inch from him when I looked down. I thought he was dead and was
about to dump him in the trash when I saw him breathing. I help
him in my hand and continued my morning routine with one hand. A
few minutes later I looked at him and he had warmed up a little
and was moving his head. I put him back under the hen and didnt
really think he would be alive when I got home from work.
I got home and he had been fed and had gotten warm. He grew on
up and I had no further problems with him I can remember. I
       called him Popsicle after that.
Best thing to do is to put him back under the hen and let nature
       take its course.

other next day he also was very cold thought was dead- but moved
head a little so put under another pair with young 3 days
younger but about same size-- doing well now starting to feather
out--If can't find pair to raise I will not take time to feed to
many other things to do. Will add pic tomorrow. GOD Bless!!!

The baby has come along fine. Actually feels heavier than its
bigger nest mate. Feathers have come in fine. Probably won't
amount to a good bird because I have invested alot of time and
baby food in him. I have learned something so that's worth
       something.

Jon....If you get it into condition and the roll is in the genes
it could become a good kit bird. ;) Joe

Keep that bird going. I recently had one that is turning into a
       star.
