Hello Lew, email me a current phone number and I will speak with
you. Too many questions and I would have to write a book to
answer all of them adequately.

Thanks Tony for the call and info on Flying Ruby's, hopefully
others will chime in and post some of their experiences.
Today I flew my Kit of young Ruby's, they are all less than a
year old, it was a bit windier than what I like to fly in, but
the sun finally came out and is wasn't snowing, so I let them
out.
I have had them on straight wheat now, a tablespoon for each
bird in their feed tray, Been wondering if that was enough,
because it didn't look like there was nearly enough, but
apparently it was, they flew for 15 min today even with fighting
the wind. The birds did stay together better as a kit, they all
landed and trapped in within 10 min, ;D I know now I have been
over feeding, I Learned something.

Hi Lew. when I start to fly young Rubys I feed them a regular
mix, about 1-2 tbs per bird until they start to kit and are
flying well for about 1hr. When they begin to come into the roll
I cut them back gradually to 1-1.5 tbs of feed consisting of 60%
wheat 40% milo. They will fly 30 to 45 min on this! I then
again after a few weeks cut down their feed to 1tbs each 75%
wheat 25% milo. They will fly 30-20mins on this. About once a
week I also give them 1tsp of pellets along with their regular
wheat and milo called Manna pro poultry conditioner and boy the
next day do they put on a show! With my Rubys I have found that
if I keep them too long on just wheat they get a bit too hot.

Thank you Raul, This is very helpful information, My birds are
already coming into the roll, some are getting hot now. So it's
time to cut the wheat so to speak.
Any other flyers out there all info is appreciated.

I have been flying everyday the weather allows and they are
starting to come together better. they now will fly a good 1/2
hour, than trap right back in when called and given their feed.
I did have to pull out a couple of the youngest birds out,
because they still wanted to land early which wanted to bring
down some of the others. The kit is forming but still not real
tight with a few doing some impressive rolls, fast quick blur
type rolls, all are rolling now, I have them on a tbl spoon per
bird of 2/3 wheat, 1/3 pellet, than follow up with a tbl spoon
per bird of milo, They act like they would still eat a horse, is
this enough feed? This is a young kit of birds going on about 10
mouths old.

low3015.... try putting one of the pulled birds back in a day or
so and see if it stays up with the kit. If it does then the next
day put the other one back and see if it kits. Some times that is
all it takes. Don't be to quick to cull. 8) Joe

Lew at that age your birds should all be going in the trap like
pirrana going after a chicken. If they are not you are still
feeding them too much. One of the hardest things to do with
rollers is to cut their feed back. It is human nature to feed
them more because they act sooooo.... hungry all the time.

They are definitely trapping in good, and yes they act hungry
enough to eat your arm if your holding any feed in your hand,
They are flying now around 20 min, kitting but loosely, I think
as they get older they will kit tighter.
The question still remains, how do you know when they are
getting enough to eat without over feeding?

Lew, Remember they are still growing, developing babies, slowly
increase their food until they are flying the time you want.
Twenty minutes is not enough ( IMO ) to build muscle and gain
endurance when they come into the roll. I do agree that control
of your kit is important but not at the cost of nutrition.
Patience is as important in management as obedience.
Take care my friend
Thom
