Foster and Breeder Records
By: Clint Cagle Date: February 9, 2011, 10:27 am

Does anyone have a record sheet or computer database that they
use to keep up with the following that they would like to share?
-when breeders lay
-when fosters lay
-which fosters are sitting on which breeders eggs.
I'm just looking for ideas.
Thanks

Hello Clint, here is a link to a form I designed for my foster
and regular breeding system. I have been using it for years. I
am slowly putting together a complete system that can be
purchased here. Since you asked for a form, I thought I would
let you take a peek at it here. If you want a copy of the form
from my system there is a modest charge for a download.

Tony,
Are you working on forms or a database as well? Being in I.T.
i'm hesitant to use any of the online databases as I've seen in
my profession what happens when the host party goes belly up.
Getting started again in the hobby I would like to use a little
technology to manage the pedigrees instead of trying to decipher
my very poor penmanship.

Hi Mark, the current system is paper, it is contained in a
binder. Each year I start a new binder. With this record keeping
system, my binders go back to 2006. So I have been using it for
6 years. Works great, especially if you do not want a
computerized system.
I have it already in the works to develop a stand alone computer
program. The main hindrance is development funds. I have a few
small financial obligations I would like to get out of the way
first before I commit funds to this project. Now if someone
wants to invest in a project, feel free to contact me with an
offer... :D

[/quote]i realize this is an old thread, just wanted to share an
idea on it ...
I use an ultrafine tip sharpie marker and write on the egg,
which pair laid it and the date laid. I write in a note book
which pair the donor is, who is the foster, how many (eggs or
babies) and then eventually the band number. By writing on the
eggs it helps me to anticipate hatching dates, check for
fertillity and developement and reminds me where things are in
case I forget to write it down immediately (which I have to do
else i forget to write it at all)
