Nice picture of the portable loft. I noticed you changed out
the 1x2 perches for 2x4. I'm wondering what the reason was.
Any other changes you've made that you'd recommend?

In your last post you mentioned difficulty getting the birds to
trap when the loft was moved. Has that improved? Any tips for
someone who's interested in it but never tried?

In your opinion does it work better with a smaller number of
       birds?

And the last question I thought of today, do your birds live in
this loft or are the only in it for flying?
       [/quote]
my birds live in there 24/7 and i now use 2"x4" and cut them to
4" for the perches because some of my birds was having problem
trying to get to the upper perches. the first three birds i
originally started with never came back on the first release due
to me being impatience and lack of self discipline. flying
portable takes a lot of patience and self discipline. i had lost
birds due to lack of trap training and birds not hungry enough.
what i have realize is that when introducing new birds to your
portable, it is best to leave the new birds in the portable for
a few days before you start trap training them. every birds has
a personality and some birds will catch on to the feed signal
within a few days and some will take a week to two weeks so be
very patient. the bird(s) will tell you when they're ready for
their first release and you should always try letting them out
inside your garage and call them in first before releasing them
outside. don't ever settle your birds to surrounding areas
because the purpose of portable loft flying is so that they can
be flown anywhere and home in on the portable only. i only
recommend flying your birds at open fields or big parking lots
because i have had birds that's been out twice and flew them at
my house and they still got lost. i also found out that flying
older birds wasn't that much harder to home in on the portable
as squeakers. obviously you'll need to use a settling cage for
them but i notice that a minimum of one week of trap training
they should be safe enough to be release but like i stated
before the birds will tell you when they're ready. a smaller kit
would be easier to keep an eye on but once they start kitting
then it doesn't matter on the size of your kit. i hope i answer
all your questions and don't be afraid to ask more questions if
you do have more and there's a few guys on here that are flying
portable or has experience with portable loft flying.

To me it looks like they are in cramped conditions, if they are
       in there 24/7,
Just my opinion. but I wouldn't be happy to keep birds like
       that.

Nice to see you having some fun flying birds from your Portable
       !!!
I only have been flying 3 Orientals out of mine.It seems I'm
ok flying them after work around 4-5pm but I get off early on
Fridays and the past two times of flying them then around noon
I've had attacks from a resident Cooper.
The last time out he tried two different birds about 3 minutes
after release. The first bird just plain outflew it then it got
up higher and started a stoop on one of my favorite black hens.
It was right on her tail and from 5' up she just dove to the
ground. The Coop missed her and she flew right to me and I let
       her in.
The Cooper flew to a tree 50 yards away but didn't even try to
take the birds on again. They didn't even care and put on a
show, came down when I called them and we all went home.I think I
could hear the hawk cussing, not real sure though,LOL

What is the size of your dog carrier? How has it been letting
them out? Do they roll at all?

i just introduce 10 new birds to my portable so i don't know
what their performance are like but a friend of mine gave me a
few of his kit birds to fly and they sure do roll.

thanks donnie, this portable thing sure is tough man. for some
reason i can't seem to keep a kit for no more than 2-3mos, as
soon as my birds starts to kit real good then something disaster
always happen like losing half of my kit. i have gone through 3
kits of 10-15 birds in the last 6-7mos. i'm not giving up yet
but i did pulled out one of my kit bird to breed from and
hopefully he'll produce a trait that i really need for this
       portable game.
