looks like the birds would crap on one another with the perches
       like that

I have several crates like this myself. The only thing that I
would do differentely is with the perches... I would use 3/4"
wooden dowel rods and stagger the top and bottom row. But, I
really like your use of a dog carring crate... Did you get the
traps in yet?? How did you do them? Good job

thanks, i did stagger the perches at first but realize that even
set up that way the birds were going to get poop on anyways lol
so i decided the more perches the less they'll have to fight and
less chance of pooping on each other. i haven't done the trap
door yet but will be plain and simple, it'll be a 4" square with
a door on top. i'll be getting two more dog crates, another one
for my B kit and the third one for holdover/replacement birds.
each kit will have exactly 11 birds and i'm still debating if
i'll add a dropper to each kit. here's a question to all you
portable loft flyers: should i use droppers?

sbs z31..... I'd use any "Advantage" that I could.... to help my
       birds to trap.

You really don't need to use droppers but they can help in a
pinch when they can't hear you shaking you feedcan of whistling.
I have been using a white fantail but want to get some other
birds what will fly longer to help bring the birds down quicker
       like figuritas or helmets.
Thru watching my birds coming down they don't really get
excited if the bird just sits on the portable. What I usually do
is chase the fan around the truck. She(white fantail) has learned
her job and when she sees them maybe 100 ft up she will fly up
towards them. That will really make them come down and land on
       the portable.
You're going to have a ball flying them this way !!!!

Hi Markw.. Iam a little confused with your statement: I have
been using a white fantail but want to get some other birds what
will fly longer to help bring the birds down quicker like
       figuritas or helmets.
Most "droppers" don"t fly... The "droppers" should be used to
let your birds know that it's time to "EAT".
Are you "sure" your birds understand what the "droppers" mean..
How did you train your birds to react to the "droppers"?? Can
you explain how your did it...?? Just trying to understand your
       problem...Thanks

       Hi,
The Fantails do work but it seems,to me, that they react to
coming down a whole lot better if the Droppers are flying a
bit.I'm not saying I want the droppers to join them more like
make a few laps around the truck then land.
To train them to the dropper what I did last year was take the
youngbirds I am about to train (not quite weaned yet) and let
them sit on the portable. After they have done that for awhile I
put the Fantail on top and open the door while whistling and
shaking my feedcan. She will drop in and then I put them in thru
the door. After doing this a few times they start to realize all
these signals mean to drop in to feed.
They only eat in the portable so they catch on quick.Once you
have a few birds trained it is really easy after that.

so i've been training three of my rollers to the portable and
today i decided to move the portable around in the garage but
the birds seems to be confuse as to what happen to their house.
i then put it back where it usually is and they have no problem
trapping in right away. i've been only training them for about a
week, how long will this process has to go on before i can fly
       them?

Nice picture of the portable loft. I noticed you changed out
the 1x2 perches for 2x4. I'm wondering what the reason was.
Any other changes you've made that you'd recommend?

In your last post you mentioned difficulty getting the birds to
trap when the loft was moved. Has that improved? Any tips for
someone who's interested in it but never tried?

In your opinion does it work better with a smaller number of
       birds?

And the last question I thought of today, do your birds live in
this loft or are the only in it for flying?
