Mike will be a positive influence on pigeons in general. This
animal planet show will create many, many new fans for both Mike
Tyson and the pigeon community. Maybe people will see them for
their beauty and stop thinking of them as just flying rats. I
look forward to all the positive publicity we will receive.

just to bring you guys up to speed, animal planet did film us
during a 'mock' fly on oct 2. there was just not enough time to
judge our kits plus spend 3 hours diverting to Mike's birds and
back to the next flyer, so we did this mock fly which worked out
ok. it was a very interesting day, as i traveled with some of
our local flyers to Mike's rooftop. Mike Rose put up a smokin
kit at 8am, and scored 277. then it was off to Brooklyn to see
Mike Tysons birds. Mike was a real gentleman, stopping to take
pictures with whoever wanted. he spoke softly, and you could
tell he was genuinely interested in the birds. as a newbie, he
certainly has plenty to learn about rollers, but thats no
different than anyone else just starting out. he put a stock up
of his flying flights, almost 1000 birds total. it was amazing
to see all these birds swirling around like some giant funnel
cloud. a few other guys put up their birds from other rooftops,
but they didn't mix like i thought they might. if two stocks
combine, you can sometimes stray in 50 or more of the other guys
birds, and vice versa. not my cup of tea, but it probably only
works in certain hi ddensity places anyway. we were told the
segment will be aired sometime in March 2011, the second show in
the series. i certainly look forward to what should be a
positive program for our hobby. first photo is Al McAteer, Vinny

it was awesome, but i was even more impressed wth how calm and
soft spoken Mike T is. here's a photo showing Mike posing with
Vinny Doherty's kids and their friends. just shows how you can
never judge a book by its cover.

it appears that animal planet cut out or decided not to use the
roller footage they made for this season's 'taking on tyson'.
maybe next year? don't know for sure, but i did hear that they
will be shooting more episodes, most likely not racing homers.
we'll see.
