Ok, based on some responses to my last post many of you think
that my beloved KC royals continue losing because of Ned Yost,
not because the Moose is not yet a major league hitter,
Francour is no longer a major league hitter and nobody at second
base appears to want to be a major league hitter- so 33% of
their offense would not start for anyone else in the league, but
it's the manager not the players that must change ( gotta have
a little fun at everything you do folks, from cuttin grass to
postin on a message board)
I'm not buyin entirely the role some of you are placing on
the roller owner and not the rollers- as I said, I've got a lot
to learn and the potential of my birds will be reached as I grow
towards whatever my potential as a loft/bird manager is to
become (see I am buying it a little). I'll agree that view is
based on ignorance and not experience. Which longwindedly leads
to my question: If you were to create a list of the mistakes
AND postive steps a roller owner could take in the management of
his birds, physical properties of his facilities and loft
management that would have great impact both positive and
negative on his loft and birds what advice would you
give...................... I'll take short answers, but remember
this is a message board, YOU came here, YOU have information WE
newer folks could use- type away. I did just spend two and a
half hours cleaning the hounds kennels so forgive how my free
flow writing came out this morning. regards, Paul Conway

Hi Paul, the topic of management in general can fill a library.
Bookstores have shelves of books on it. In my opinion the use of
the word "management" is short for seeing and understanding the
issues involved in getting what is necessary from the birds and
what to do about it and then making it happen to make the hobby
fun, satisfying and entertaining to boot.
To use your analogy of baseball manager is not completely a good
one in that the roller pigeon manager sees a bird that is not up
to par and can eliminate it without asking anybody else. A
baseball manager is stuck with the players the team signs. He
answers to higher management.
But I do understand your point. ;D
My short To Do list advice:
1: Understand and be able to explain the aerial standard

2: Breed and fly birds that come as close as possible to this
standard
3: Do 1 and 2 above.
My short Don't Do list
1: Don't get distracted from your To Do List
This is probably off from what you had in mind but its my .02
cents. I am sure others will have specifics you desire. ;)

Very well said Tony. Here is my advises. LISTEN to all advise.
Put to use what you think will best suit your birds.
REMEMBER....what works for one, doesn't necessarily mean that it
will work for YOU. You have to pick and choose. Their is a lot
of trail and error when managing birds. Have a plan of
attack.... Stick to you plan.... Don't get distracted... Stay
focused.... and be PATIENCE... last but not least.....enjoy and
have fun with your feathered friends...haha. This will be a
learning experience for time to come. I have been flying pigeons
for many many years and I learn things daily with the different
breeds of birds that I manage.

PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE !!!! That's as short as I can
make it. One other thing and I'm guilty of it, don't always
think someone else has better birds than you because you read it
somewhere. Your best birds will be the ones you breed after you
establish your own family... hence PATIENCE !!
