       How much time
   DIR By: Jon

How much time does the average flyer spend on his birds in a day
or week. Total time in the loft and watching them fly. I know
breeders that sell birds (like tony) most likely spend more time
but I'm wondering how much time the average person spends.

I spend on an average about 2 1/2 hours a day doing roller
stuff. Cleaning, feeding, flying two kits, banding young birds,
documentation and anything else that needs to be done. I enjoy
every minute i spend with the birds.

O Boy, Maybe that's my problem. I don't have 2-4 extra hours in
a day to work on anything or do anything while the sun is up.
I'm up at 5:30am and to bed by 9pm I hope. 95% of the day is
       working or on the road.

Jon...... don't get frustrated about the amount of time spent
with the birds. It's not the "amount" of time spent. It's the
"quality of time" spent. I am a retired truck driver. When I
was working, I left my house at 3:30 am and got home around 6
pm. So I tried to spend at least 1/2 hr to 35 minutes a day and
weekends more. Ya gotta learn to "prioritize" your "free"
       time....

       Hey all.,
Like the majority(it seems) I'm also retired. I spend
as much time as possible with my birds. Most of the time it's
just observation, no interaction. I just sit in the corner and
watch, this is with my older and breeders. With my young. I try
to have as much close contact as possible, to try and control
them and keep them calm and use to being handled. I also have an
experimental box, where these birds are kept on my version of
the darkness method employed by the racing pigeon men, It's
early days so can't comment on the outcome, But having said
that, there is days, when I've just gone in very early in the
morning put food down and not been back till next day! Mainly
this is either family day out or off to visit a fancy pigeon
show. You've just got to give them the time you can afford.
