Hello guys i bought 4 birmingham rollers last week, I have
posted links to their pictures, there are three in the links,
the 4th one is a red check hen just like the cock in the pic.
This is the first time i have bought pigeons so this is all very
new to me. I am currently just training them to the feed call,
once they learn this i will begin to trap train them. Please let
me know what you think of their pictures. Thanks

I dont know what strain they are as the breeder said they were
just the basic performance type, they are all around 4 or 5
months old.

Welcome to the site and the roller hobby. I hope you enjoy your
birds. I can see you are excited about them already.
Man I dont want to curb your enthusiasm ... but ... 4-5 months
old is a 'little' old to start them flying. If the fancier you
got them from has been flying them, no problem. If however, this
will be thier first air time, you may have already past some
critical windows of time for proper development.
Do a little research on them, find out what strain, what the
person you got them from feeds, go and see some of theirs
perform, ask how long roll development takes, etc etc. Go into
this hobby with your eyes wide open. Roller people are some of
the best in the world, but that doesnt mean they all are. Too
often I hear about new roller people who got burned by a feather
merchant selling birds that hadnt ought to be kept. Find a local
club or some fliers in your area and get hooked up with them,
you will need some information and reference in this to be
sucessful.
Maybe tell us where your from and we can help connect you. Good
luck and happy flying
Jon

The guy i got them off didnt know what strain they were. He said
he had 8 breeding pairs of rollers and he just sells the young.
The ones i got of him have never flown before. I am from
England, UK and i had trouble finding young rollers an these
were the youngest i could find at the moment. I am also a member
of Pigeon Forum and the adgice i got of their was that 4 months
old birds which have not flown before was a good start. Thank
you.
