Hi all, well we have just had our rollers for about a week and a
half now and we already had our first dealing with a hawk. I
don't know if it was a falcon or a cooper, we our still settling
our rollers, we have a mixed kit some older and some young
rollers, we have a cage we were using and we were putting them
away for the afternoon one got out. It stayed in the back yard
and went from our house to the neighbors house and back to the
kit box. I put the rest in the kit box though the trap and I put
a little feed on the board to coax the roller in well one roller
inside the kit box came out though the trap to get the treat and
now I had 2 rollers out. Then my son says dad isn't that a hawk
about twice the size of the roller with speckles on the
telephone poll? Oh great I said!! Then the one that got out of
the kit box though the trap takes off and you know what happens
next. We our now down one less roller. Wow that was quick. The
first roller really never went high in the air to fly about roof
top high. The hawk must have been in the area. Those little
suckers. My son wanted to do you know what to that hawk. Then we
had a talk and I told him the laws. Well just wanted to let you
guy's know. Also we had just got the rollers at this local. We
will have to watch out in the future. Bill

Hi Bill,
Sorry to hear about your problem. I live in South Africa and we
don't have the same problem were I live. I have read many posts
on this blog which discuss solutions.
Anyway good Luck
Mathieu

Hi Bill, welcome to the site!
You might consider keeping your birds out of site for the next
few days as predators tend to come back where they have fed and
scope out the next meal. If he sees your rollers he may very
well begin to hang out at your place. If nothing is seen as far
as your birds for a meal, there is a possibility he will move on
if this was merely an opportunity catch (right place right time
for easy meal). Good luck!

You guy's are not going to belive this my youngest son just
calls me at work tells me guess what on the kit box!!! Our
roller that we thought was nailed by the hawk friday. The last I
saw of him was taking off from the kit box going over the house
roof high and the hawk lite off from the telephone pole right
behind it I mine right behind it. We went to the front of the
house but saw nothing no roller and no hawk. So we thought for
sure the roller was toast. Well the roller made it I guess we
will name him lucky or lighting. Awesome. I guess I will not
assume next time. Thanks Bill
