Hi All new to the forum and roller pigeons, me and my 2 sons
just got a doulbe kit box and some roller from a guy. I have had
racing pigeon in the past but never rollers. Wow I wish I would
have find rollers earlyer in my life way cool birds. and alot
less money and more fun to watch. Ok my question is what type of
feeder to use. I got a wooden borad with edges with I got the
kit box but I thought you shouldn't let the birds walk in there
food. I have looked at racing homer feeders but they look to big
and to big for the kit box. Any ideas would be a great help.
Thanks Bill

Hi Bill, welcome to the forum! Yes rollers are most definitely
the best entertaining birds to watch! I wish you and your 2 sons
many years of enjoyment with them! As for feeders, what ever
works for you is the way to go ;D

Hi Kosales,
Welcome to the roller fraternity although we have some sisters
also. I am sure you and your sons will have a great time with
these beautiful birds.
My feeders are about 2ft long with a sliding top with an inch
and a half holes on top made from calvernised tin. Its important
that you keep your birds feeding trough clean and give them
fresh water every day.
I usually take all the feed out before sunset and the water so
that mice, rats and other nasty creatures don't defecate and
urinate in my birds water and feed. This spreads desease and can
kill your birds.
Take care and enjoy your birds

Welcome Bill, I hope rollers bring you as much enjoyment as they
have me.
As far as the type of feeder; I use a large tray (made of wood)
about 30 in x 30 in with a 3 in edge. My birds all pile into the
tray to feed. They do walk on the feed a little while they are
eating which only lasts 5 miuntes or so. I dont believe that
they contaminate their feed in doing so in this fashion. When I
am not flying my birds, I use a 2.5 in ABS pipe, long enough so
all the birds can access it, half on each side, cut in half as a
feed tray.
Dont leave feed in you kitboxes for your birds. Its ok in your
breeding pens to have food infront of them continuously, but not
for flying birds.

Welcome from here too to you and the gang Bill. Every one has
different feeders I think. Some inside, some outside the wire,
My feeders are a lot like 'WishIwon two" Mine are 2'w X 30''
long, 1" lip around. actually lip is 1 x 4, nailed to 2x4 frame,
I put about 1/2 " play sand from bldg supply store in feeder,
smooth it out, sprinkle feed on top of sand, they will eat some
sand as a grit i guess !! when they finish eating I lay a cut
piece of 1/4 plywood over feeder. If they poop in it, then I'll
take 1/4 hardware clothe, make a scoop out ot that and it picks
up the poope and filters the sand, I didn't dream this idea,
just improved on a cat litter box that I saw on tv LOL !. Hey
it works 2 fould I"m just a yearling myself to pigeons, but what
I've learned I'll certianlly share!!! Good Luck with your new
project; chesley PS the sand is sanitized.

Welcome to the forum Bill. I use twenty four inch galvanized
chicken feeders with the sliding tray and inch and a half holes
in tray. I remove the tray as soon as the rollers are done
feeding. I clean them and hang them up to dry for the next days
feeding. Enjoy your rollers they are a lot of fun.
