Hows everyone's BOP season going. I've had a few fly ins but so
far my birds have managed to escape.

Hi Ross, pigeons that have run-ins with BOP can gain valuable
experience and can become better at avoiding them. Older pigeons
seem to fare better than younger ones. Continued good luck! :D

WHERE are the BOP when you really need them....haha I haven't
seen nor heard from my resident BOP for several weeks now.
Although my "problem" birds are no longer around as of
yesterday.... You follow me Ross??... haha

My resident Cooper usually scouts the neighborhood early
afternoon.
The last couple days I've been flying in small batches of 4-5
birds to evaluate their behaviour. Today it was getting a little
windy at 11 as I finished with the Jaconettes, so i sent up the
kit of 28 Hiltons just to get some fly time before BOP time.
Well, he came early today and he was hungry. It took after the
kit and chased it out of sight to the north. The stragglers
immediately came down to the loft. A few minutes later the kit
reappeared flying south but climbing the entire time, when the
BOP singled out a kite whiteside that i feel had great
potential.
The Cooper pushed it down and then the roller went into evasion
tactics. I've seen Orientals evade hawks and this Birmingham
used every one of the tricks including flying through tree tops,
rising, dropping, twisting and sharp turns. Always trying to
line up with the loft. I had no doubt she was trying an
emergency trap in, but the wiley cooper matched her turn for
turn and last I saw of her she flew over the house barely
missing the chimney and off to the woods in the west part of
town.
The remaining young Hiltons were scattered over the sky and
looked like little pinpoints. No idea how long they were going
to fly up there. Fortunately the cooper didn't reappear for
quite awhile, so they had time to start dropping down and
trapping, though the kit never did come back together.
Just a few minutes ago (this is 4 hrs after the fly) I went out
to see how many had trapped in. And there, in her favorite spot
sits the kite whiteside hen. WOW. I thought for sure the bird
"was toast" as the saying goes.
And as crazy as it sounds all 26 young Hiltons are in the
kitbox. That cooper was attacking with a vengence so it was
hungry and hunting. I can only assume that after the chase it
must have found a robin or blackbird to eat.
Now my delimma. With 27 Jacs and 26 Hiltons that are only half
tested I have to continue flying, but I think I'll keep
everything locked down tight the rest of the week and not let
anything into the fly cages. Maybe Mr Cooper will move on to
greener pastures.

Bops have moved in heavy at my place and I am locked down til
April. Time for some loft maintenance and new construction of
the breeder loft.

Good story Mark as Tony says they'll learn from this encounter &
only get better.
My Cooper hasn't been around for 2 days. Flew 15 Fireballs this
A M no problems.
With the nights cooling down around here have had to increase my
feed by 1/2 in order
to get same flight time & performance as before.

Thought I'd mention a "bop" attack today. Had one attack early
in the week but got away with no hurt pigeons., but today my hp
birds had been flyin for 1hr 15m, up way high and I said well I
don't think anything will bother them that high, so I started
walking back to my kit pen and I looked up, cause I knew these
birds would come down in about 15 more minutes. Then I saw what
appeared to be a stray pigeon in the kit , just flying with
them. I think they were unaware of what was there for a moment
or so. Then a white pigeon pull right like an out flyer, and
thats when crap started happening. This hawk was same size of my
birds, only his color caught my eye. I knew it wasn't my bird. I
thought it was one of my neighbors birds, Then pigeon started
evasive manuvers, and I knew what was about to take place. The
rest of the kit were still about 500' high and climbing now. The
white pigeon came down low real low, like 20' off ground,
flying through oak tree thicket, and the hawk probably only 2
feet or less behind, he did every move that she made. She came
out to open field as if heading for the trap hole in kit pen but
I had closed it because of a couple early landers, and I didn't
want them trapping to get feed before the kit came down, the
bop still on her behind, I think she realized the trap wasn't
open just in time and she diverted down a 90 dgree left turn
and flew into a revine of wild grape vines that were growing
about 2 feet high, I'm taking flying wide ass open !!! lol
The hawk swooped stright up a lite in a tree behind my loft. I
walked around to see if I could spot him and he flew into open
view and sit on a limb and just looked at me. He was a little
joker about the size of my bird. The kit came down shortley
after the bop moved out, they had about 1hr 55m flight time on
my stop watch. The bird that flew into the revine came out an
trapped with the kit when they finnaly came down and trapped.
I don't know what kind of bop he is. My neighbor said it must
have been a sparrow hawk. I thought sparrow hawks were smaller'
It sure scared me , Anyway no loss of pigeons. You all have a

a few years back 1 of my club member was flying his birds and a
bop started to chase 1 down about 3 feet high and it wend around
and he hear big bang sound on the house so he walk around and
seen where the bop his storge tank where he his heating oil and
found the bop dead and the bird got a way
