"Away from here..." David muttered as he wiped his eyes again;
the dark marks were still fading, but there nonetheless. David
glanced behind him every so often to make sure the girl was
following him. After leading the girl far away enough from the
Towers, he stopped and looked around for a place to hide. Still
in the woods, all he managed to find was a little "cave" in the
side of a hill. He stared at the girl for a moment and then
disappeared inside, hoping she got the message to follow him.

Cerys didn't hesitate to follow David, and was only dimly aware
of Sora and Alikae beside her. When he stopped inside the cave,
she looked up at him again. "David, what's wrong?" she asked
again, almost pleading. "What happened to you?"

The dark marks were almost gone now. David shuddered; he felt so
cold!
"What happened to you?" The girl asked. David shook his head,
took of his hat, and ran his hand through his hair. He sighed;
this girl was part of it now, so she deserved to know.
"We were trying to smuggle some food into the Resistance," He
began, not looking at the girl, "Alice and I... But... we got
caught... Or at least, she did..." He took a deep breath. "They
started questioning her and when she refused to answer..." He
closed his eyes, "They started jabbing her... with those cattle
p-prods..." He felt tears coming to his eyes and he quickly
wiped them away. "I could've helped her... b-but I didn't! I...
I was such a coward... I just... I hid! I promised Dodo I'd take
care of her... his little girl..." He sighed shakily. Suddenly,
the dark marks disappeared and David's eyes shot wide; he
remembered everything now! He started sweating and he rocked
back and forth. "Oh my God..." He said shakily, "A-alice, she...
she...!" He held his head in his hands. "They killed her!!"

Cerys bit her lip when David told the story. She was still
crying, but for more than one reason now. "Dodo's daughter...?"
she asked. "So that's why he hates you..."
Hesitantly, she moved a little closer to him and touched his arm
gently. "I... I'm sorry that happened to you..." she said
sincerely, as she didn't know what else to say.
She shivered, and Alikae and Sora both automatically moved
closer to her. Sora laid down next to her and put his head in
her lap, like always. She smiled slightly and stroked his
feathers, and his eyes closed. "You were so brave," she
whispered to him. "Thank you."
Alikae, meanwhile, stayed close to the cave entrance, her tail
flicking and her ears pointed forward. She didn't trust this
place...

Cerys--David remembered her now--touched his arm gently. "I...
I'm sorry that happened to you..." she said. Out of sorrow and
confusion, David suddenly wrapped his arms around her. Once he
realized what he was doing, his eyes widened and he let go. He
stood up and cleared his throat. "S...sorry..." He muttered
under his breath.

Cerys blinked when David hugged her, then let go just as
suddenly. She looked up at him and smiled, still stroking Sora
absentmindedly. "I don't mind," she said softly.
Sora grumbled incoherently. Obviously he minded. But for once,
Cerys didn't notice. She sighed and looked around. "We need to
move... We shouldn't stay so close to here after what happened."
Sora withdrew from her and stood up, and she did the same.
Alikae got to her feet a bit more slowly, her tail flicking
dangerously. She could've sworn she'd seen something move...

David watched Cerys stand up and, just before she started
walking, he gently grabbed her by the wrist. "I... went Mad,
didn't I?" He asked softly before he gulped. "I can't remember
anything between getting tortured and... right now..."

"Y-yeah... pretty much..." Cerys said. "You kept screaming
something about... about Alice." She hesitated for a moment, and
then cleared her throat. "We really should get going..." she
muttered.
Meanwhile, Alikae was still staring at the landscape, perfectly
still except for her tail. She glanced from one spot to another
quickly, not sure what she had seen... She growled under her
breath, crouching low to the cave floor. Sora saw her out of the
corner of his eye and took a small step back. He didn't know
what was going on, but she was obviously upset. He half-spread
his right wing, ready to protect Cerys if he needed to.
((Love how they forget David exists. XD))

brilliant. Bloody freaking brilliant. Cerys cleared her throat
and David looked up at her. "We really should get going..." she
muttered.
"Yeah," David agreed, standing up.

Cerys smiled uncertainly at David when he stood up. "Do you have
anywhere in mind?"
Alikae growled again, louder this time. She took a step back
from the cave mouth, her ears pinned flat back. She had seen it
again... a flash of movement among the trees, closer this time.
It was definitely headed right for them.
Cerys noticed for the first time that something was wrong. She
looked down at Alikae. "Alikae...? What's wrong?" she asked
hesitantly.
