"David--!" Cerys exclaimed when Dodo shouted the order for his
arrest. She looked up at Dodo when he said that David was a
wanted criminal. "But he... he's not...!" she stammered, taking
a step away from Dodo. "He tried to help me..." she whispered,
staying close to Sora's side. Sora glared at Dodo, spreading his
right wing to protect Cerys. He could tell that this 'Dodo' was
not the kind of person that he or Cerys should trust.

"That's what he does," Dodo explained, "He gets you to trust him
so that he can use you when your guard's down. He's been doing
it for years. People bring people like you to him and he pays
them, right? He was trying to use you this entire time."

Sora growled at Dodo, pushing Cerys back with his wing. However,
Cerys slapped his side. "Cut it out, Sora," she complained. He
looked back at her for an instant, then growled at Dodo and
pulled his wing back. He stood behind her, looking at Dodo like
he wanted to murder him.
Cerys, however, was looking at Dodo with confusion instead of
hatred. "He... I think he did pay the man that brought me to
him..." she remembered. She glanced in the direction that the
guards had taken David, then looked back at Dodo. "He was using
me," she decided.
Sora growled from behind her. That's not true. Not true at all.
He was trying to help us! Being a griffin, however, he had no
way to help. He would have to hope that Dodo didn't turn out to
be as evil as Sora thought he was....

Dodo smiled warmly. "Why don't you come with me?" He said, "I
can get you some real help..."

Down in the makeshift dungeon Dodo had prepared, David awoke to
total darkness. He tried moving, but found himself tied to a
chair. Suddenly, a single light above him flicked on. David
winced and closed his eyes, trying to get used to the light.
"Well, well, well," Dodo's voice rang; David opened his eyes to
see the man walked towards him, hands behind his back, "You have
some nerve coming back here, Hatter..."
"I just wanted to help Cerys," He said truthfully, for once.
"Bull!" Dodo shouted, suddenly jabbing a cattle prod into
David's arm; David cried out in pain and surprise, but managed
to hold most of it in. Dodo smiled wickedly. "You're going to
use her like you used my daughter!!"
"I didn't use her!" David shouted, "There was nothing I could
do!"
"Rubbish!" Dodo shouted, jabbing David in the other arm. This
time, David bit back his scream.
David started panting and wheezing from the pain. "At least...
tell me one thing..." He muttered as the skin around his eyes
began to get dark, "What are you going to do... with Cerys?"
Dodo threw his head back and laughed hard. "So you saw past me,
huh?" He said, "Well, I am going to kill you... I might as well
let you know the truth. You see, she's an Outsider, so I'm going
to use her as bait. Put a bomb on her and send her into Machine
Towers. No one, not even her, will suspect a thing!"
David growled loudly, closing his eyes and shaking his head. The
dark marks around his eyes began to spread into lines that
stretched down his face and neck. "You bastard!" He shouted, his
eyes snapping open, "How could you do this?!"
"Easily," Dodo said, poking David in the stomach with the cattle
prod; this time, it hit a sensitive spot and David full out
screamed. Dodo laughed. "Now, sit tight for a bit while I make
our guest upstairs more comfortable..."

Sora's ears flicked forwards. He had heard a scream. David.
Cerys had her back to him. She was looking down at the ring on
her hand, unsure of what to do next. Unnoticed by Cerys, or
anyone else for that matter, Sora slipped out of the room.
Carefully, he made his way stealthily down to where he had heard
David's scream. He hid behind large objects whenever someone
passed him. He could tell he was getting closer to David... he
just hoped he wouldn't be too late to save both David and Cerys.

Dodo slipped out of the torture room quietly; he didn't spot
Sora, but headed to Cerys's room. Inside the torture room, David
sat, strapped to his chair, panting and rocking back and forth.
His whole body was on fire and his mind was swimming. He could
feel himself starting to lose it, the Madness enshrouding his
mind. It had had happened when he was fighting the Jabberwock
too, though not this bad. David closed his eyes and clenched his
hands into fists, trying to wriggle out of the iron clamps
around his wrists, but with no luck. He couldn't believe it was
going to end like this! He screamed out of fury and tried
pulling on the restraints harder, which only resulted in him
cutting himself on the metal.

Sora heard David scream again, and he jumped. Silently, he
slipped into the room that David was in. He gave a low croon,
looking at David with his clear blue eyes. He looked pretty
bad... Immediately Sora knew that Dodo had planned to kill him.
Sora quickly slipped around to the back of the chair David was
tied to and looked at the bonds. Iron. For a moment he recoiled
in disgust. Iron? That awful metal...
Then he took a deep breath, steeling himself. I won't have to
touch it for long... He carefully extended one of his claws. He
could do this. He'd cut metal before.
Sora took another deep breath, then brought his claw down on the
metal bonds, slicing them neatly in half. He gave a muffled cry
as they fell, pulling his claw back to him. He gulped. The tip
of the claw was blackened, as if it had been burned. It also
seemed less sharp now. He shook his head, trying to clear his
thoughts. He could still put weight on his paw, which was good.
He came back around in front of David, looking at him
pleadingly. We have to help Cerys, his gaze seemed to say.

David heard someone enter the room and he gulped. "Who's
there?!" He exclaimed. He was answered by a low croon that
sounded familiar. Suddenly, Sora came into the light and walked
around him. David stared at the griffin as it circled him. He
heard Sora take a deep breath before he felt a sharp slash of
pain at his wrists. The restraints clanked to the floor and
David let out a soft groan as he rubbed his wrists; they were
raw and bleeding. David looked up to see Sora staring at him,
pleadingly. David understood and started to stand up, when the
pain from the cattle prod hit him. He hissed through his teeth
and looked down at himself; the little lightning rod had done a
number on his arms and his stomach probably had a large welt now
too. Perfect.
David pushed past the pain and stood up. "Let's go, mate," He
said to Sora, "I'll be damned if I'm going to let Dodo use
Cerys..."

Sora nodded and followed David stealthily. If anything happened
to Cerys...

Cerys looked up as Dodo entered the room, but quickly looked
down again. She was still upset about David... how had she let
herself get taken in that easily?

Sora led David to Cerys's room and he literally kicked down the
door. The black marks around his eyes darkened when he saw Dodo.
"DODO!!" David screamed darkly, leaping at the man, "LEAVE HER
ALONE!!" David punched Dodo in the face with his right fist,
breaking the man's nose. Dodo cried out in pain and punched
David back, sending him to the floor. David hissed in pain. "I
won't let you use her!" He shouted at Dodo. Suddenly, Dodo sent
his leg flying into David and harshly kicked him right where
he'd burned him with the cattle prod. David cried out in pain
and grabbed the man's leg, swinging him over and onto the floor.
