In the shadows of the moonlight, one often can feel like there
is something in the darkness, watching them. Usually there is
nothing, just the feeling which is illogical.
However, for Taruk Hollyren, as he looked into the shadows of
the moonlight, he could swear he was seeing a pair of small,
dark grey eyes staring right back. But when he blinked, the eyes
disappeared. Shrugging it off, Taruk walked down the dark
street, staying away from the shadows.
Taruk was a small, agile, middle-aged man who often liked to con
the richer folk into paying him enormous sums of money to 'take
care' of their monetary affairs. He was infamous among the many
con artists in Rios for never having being caught.
As Taruk turned the corner, he gulped. Ahead of him down the
street was an overhanging walkway, which cast a long shadow
across the street. Sitting atop the overhang was a black owl,
staring up at the moon.
Slowly, Taruk approached the shadow. He was scared, because he
knew he had seen the grey eyes which meant he was being watched.
Stopping just before the moonlight ended, Taruk rocked on the
balls of his feet.
Suddenly, from the pitch black shadow, a leather bound hand shot
out and grabbed Taruk by the scruff of his neck before pulling
him into the shadows.
The sound of a muffled cry. A knife cutting thin flesh. A quiet
thump.
The sound of cloth on metal. Something being dragged across the
flagstones. A door shutting softly.
Alex stepped out into the moonlight, looking up at the beautiful
silver orb which hung in the sky. Soraxos flew down from the
overhang and landed on Alex's shoulder with a soft hoot.
Reaching up, Alex stroked Soraxos's feathers as he quickly
turned and walked back into the shadow of the overhang, and
disappeared from sight.
If anyone had been watching, they would of saw nothing, and not
seen Alex walk out the other side of the shadow.
In fact Alex didn't walk out of the other side of the shadow. He
had slipped down into the drains which were old and relatively
dry, and had made his way to the edge of the city.

Cerys looked up at the sky again, contemplating her options.
Sora shuffled uneasily beside her. He reached down and nudged
her shoulder with his head, giving a low croon. Cerys looked up
and stroked his feathers, smiling. "I know how you feel, but you
can't keep me away. I'm going to Korika whether you like it or
not... Would you rather help me get there, or have me die
trying?"
Sora shuffled uneasily again, squawking in protest. Cerys smiled
gently and scratched his forehead, between his ears. He closed
his eyes. "I know, boy, I know. You're worried. But I don't have
any reason not to go... and I feel like there's something there
that I need to find."
Sora opened his eyes again and glared at her. Using one talon,
he scratched three letters into the dirt by his feet.
D-A-D
Cerys's face fell. "I know he died, Sora... but that's one of
the reasons I need to go back." He protested again, but she
smiled sadly. "I'm still going, Sor. You can't stop me." She
stood up, looking over at him. "Are you going to help me, or
not?"
With a sigh, Sora nodded, putting his head forward and moving
his wings so that she could easily climb up. Cerys smiled.
"Thanks, boy." She easily climbed up onto his back, and he
sprang into the air. Making annoyed noises deep in his throat,
Sora angled his wings so that he sailed effortlessly to the
northwest, heading on a path straight to Korika.

David Hatter--or just Hatter, as he was commonly called
nowadays--sat in his office, in his swiveling chair, angrily
sipping tea while staring at the wall. His brown leather jacket
had been thrown on the desk behind him and his crumpled top hat
was hanging loosely on his knee. He'd just been told some bad
news that had really set him off, and he wasn't about to act
like it didn't.
Nearly everyone at his Shoppe was quitting.
There was a small knock at his office door and David took
another sip of tea. "Uhn," He merely said, not even turning
towards the door.
The door creaked open just a little and a small man with a
mustache poked his head in. "Um... boss?" He began. David said
nothing, but the man continued, "I-I just, you know, wanted to
let you know..." He gulped, "I'm heading out, too... Like the
others, I mean. I-I quit." David still said nothing, but he
huffed angrily, and the man noticed. "R-really sorry, boss, I
mean it. Good luck, mate." And with that, the man left,
scurrying out of the Shoppe.
David spun around in his chair and slammed his cup down onto his
desk. He pinched the bridge of his nose and growled angrily.
David was alone, again; now, with that man gone, everyone had
quit.
And why had they quit? Because of a new law against tea.
Brilliant. Just bloody freaking brilliant. Just thinking about
the new law, David grabbed his cup and downed the rest of its
now-illegal contents in retaliation. He was sick and tired of
all of the outlawizations, or whatever you call it. In all of
his seventeen years, he'd never seen so many things become
illegal--pointlessly at that! First it was something as simple
as peanuts--because the tyrant was allergic--but now it was
nearly everything that set that old bastard off. He probably
outlawed tea because his was too hot or something.
David stood up and flipped his hat onto his head. He grabbed his
jacket and put that on as well before going out into his
Shoppe's main room. He surveyed the building and he sighed when
he saw the tea bar. Sooner or later, the tyrant's men would find
the place and--most likely--burn it to the ground. David looked
over all of the teas he had, took his hat off, and ran his hand
through his hair. He'd have to get what he had down into the
storage room soon, or else he'd be arrested for possessing
illegal drinks. He's probably give nearly all of it to the
Resistance, but he needed to save some for himself. Of course,
the last time he'd said nearly, his last man quit.
David huffed once more and made himself another cup of tea. He
took the first sip, looking around the room once more, and then
looked down at his glass. He licked his lips, thinking of what
would happen when he ran out of tea--withdrawal was a bitch, and
she'd find him eventually; he dreaded the day it would start.
David had been addicted--literally--to tea since he was fifteen.
He just couldn't get away from the stuff--it was like his wonder
drug. There were teas for relaxing, sweet teas, spicy teas--you
name it, he was addicted to it! And soon, it would all be gone.
David hoped for something to keep his mind off of the tea--at
least for now--and at the moment, it could be, reasonably, just
about anything.

((Longest post -ever-, coming right up.))
Cerys looked around, surveying the icy wasteland around her.
We're here...
She looked up at Sora. He had his ears pointed forwards, as if
he was listening to something. His eyes were worried. "What?
What is it, boy?" Cerys asked, glancing around again. Nothing
seemed out of place...
Sora growled and spread his left wing, putting it in front of
her like a shield. "Sor...?" she asked.
She was interrupted by a growl that could only have come from a
large beast. A very angry large beast.
Sora growled in response, pulling Cerys closer to him and taking
a step backwards. The approaching beast moved forwards, its
heavy paws thudding on the icy ground. There was silence, then
another snarl from the unknown beast. Cerys tried to push Sora's
wing away, so she could see it, and judge whether they should
attack or run. However, Sora held firm, not letting her come
into view.
There was a shift in the earth, like the beast was preparing to
spring...
At that moment, a third fierce snarl erupted from somewhere to
Cerys's right. The first unknown monster howled in pain, like
the new beast had attacked it. In Sora's confusion, Cerys
finally managed to push out from under his wing.
An enormous white bear, easily several feet taller than Sora,
was laying flat on the ground, pinned under a slightly smaller
ice-white tiger. Cerys was frozen in place with shock. The
tiger...
Memories flashed before her eyes.
The gloves, her gloves... Nobody knew where she had found
them...
The ice crystal, the one she wore on her wrist...
Her need to go to Korika, despite her family's history there...
The tiger's face...
The tiger looked up for a moment and met Cerys's eyes. It seemed
to nod. With one final swipe of its claws, it sprang away from
the bear. The bear howled and lumbered away, more quickly than
should have been possible, regarding its size. The tiger turned
back to Cerys. Sora spread his wing again, but Cerys murmured,
"Don't..."
The tiger continued slowly forward until she was standing
directly in front of Cerys. Slowly, Cerys reached out a hand and
touched the fur on her forehead. The tiger's ice-gray eyes,
precisely the same shade as her own, closed.
--timeskip--
"So, I never got your name..." Cerys said to the tiger
conversationally. They had made a campsite for themselves with
the help of a few tools that Cerys had brought in a small
backpack. They were planning on staying here a small while
longer while Cerys drew some of the landscapes and the animals
she had seen, then they would all journey back to Chisamae.
There was no thought of the tiger staying on Korika--Cerys was
absolutely certain that she had found her true spirit animal.
Sora sulked in the background, sensing what Cerys was feeling.
It wasn't fair! He had thought he was her spirit animal... After
all, her mother was an eagle and her father was a lion... didn't
it make sense for her to be a griffin? He whined low in his
throat, putting his head on the ground between his paws. Cerys
obviously liked the tiger better... Why didn't she still like
him, as well?
The tiger looked up, and Cerys smiled again. She could never get
over how perfect the tiger seemed--her fur was a flawless ice
white, with her stripes being sharp and unvarying from their
paths. And her eyes... they were a halfway point, an icy, stormy
gray in which Cerys felt she could almost see herself...
The tiger looked down again, and with one claw began to scratch
letters in the ice. Cerys bent over to look, while Sora didn't
bother.
A-L-I-K-A-E
"Alikae?" Cerys asked. It seemed a good name, fitting for a
tiger. "But... who gave you that name, may I ask?"
Alikae looked at Cerys and seemed to sigh. She rubbed her paw
over her own name and started anew.
L-I-O-N
"Lion...? A lion gave you the name?" Cerys asked, puzzled.
Alikae shook her head and added three letters onto the word.
D-A-D
"Dad..." Cerys said. Sora looked up, and Cerys looked over at
him, then back at Alikae. "My... my dad?" she asked quietly.
Alikae nodded gravely. "What... happened to him...?"
The current words were erased, and Alikae started again.
B-E-A-R
"The bear... the one we met earlier?" Cerys asked, tears forming
in her eyes. Alikae nodded and put her head on Cerys's shoulder,
sighing. Cerys scratched the fur behind Alikae's ears, and
Alikae's eyes closed. Cerys smiled, then looked over at Sora.
"C'mon, Sor. We shouldn't stay here long. Let's get going."
Cerys looked down at Alikae. "Are you sure you can swim that
far...?"
D-U-H
Cerys laughed. "I'll take that as a yes..." She stood up,
walking over to Sora. She scratched the feathers on his forehead
as she always did. He seemed down. "Come on. Soon we'll be back
home and Mom can find you something good to eat," she murmured
to him. He perked up slightly, and Cerys sighed. "You know I
still love you, Sor. Even if you're not really my spirit
animal... you're still my best friend, and the first real friend
I ever had. So come on. Let's head home."
Sora seemed to smile, and he prepared for her to climb up onto
his back. Alikae was already in the water, swimming purposefully
towards Chisamae. Once Cerys had clambered up, Sora took off,
flying directly above Alikae. Cerys smiled. None of them noticed
the approaching storm.
--timeskip again >.>--
"SORA!" Cerys shouted over the roar of the winds. He turned his
head, concerned. He was struggling to stay in the air when the
winds were so unruly. The storm had hit them just a few miles
off the coast. They were all--Alikae included--being pushed back
towards Korika, as if the island was intent upon holding them
there. "Sor, it's too hard to fight this! We should go back and
wait it out!" she yelled. He seemed to agree with her, but
looked down. Cerys looked down too.
Alikae was struggling to remain afloat among waves seven times
as tall as the bear she had fought off. Cerys held her breath as
for one heart-stopping moment, the pure white tiger slipped
below a wave, being completely hidden from view. She then sighed
when she saw Alikae resurface. "Sora! We need to turn
back--now!"
Sora seemed to agree. He called the message to Alikae with a
shriek, then turned away. There appeared to be an island nearby,
but...
"That's not Korika...!" Cerys gasped. "The storm must've blown
us past... we have to stay there for the night, there's no way
we can go anywhere else."
Sora nodded and made a frantic dive for the island, heading
towards a beach fringed by a forest. Then Cerys turned as she
heard a tiger-ish shriek of terror.
Alikae had been knocked underwater by yet another enormous wave.
Another was coming, pushing Alikae further and further away from
the island--and safety. "ALIKAE!!" Cerys screamed, helpless to
do anything.
Both Cerys's scream and the fierce winds knocked Sora off
course. With a gasp, he crashed into the trees instead of the
sand, and screamed in pain as he felt the bones in his wing
break. He plummeted the rest of the way to the ground.
"SORA!!" Cerys shrieked, tears streaming down her face. She
hugged his neck in the last few seconds she had before they hit
the ground.
Upon the impact, Cerys screamed again, and then fell sideways
off the griffin, her arms still around his neck. She had one
last view of the trees above her before everything went black.
((There. Happy, Falcon? XD))

Several weeks after the 'disappearance' of Taruk Hollyren, on a
large chartered ship crossing the ocean between the Rios region
and Chisamae, Jake Rosltoy, the captain, turned to his tall,
dark passenger.
"I'll stay at the docks as long as you need me there. If I'm not
at the docks, I'll be spending this load at the pub," Jake said
merrily, patting the rather large purse of coins on his belt.
Alex nodded curtly, before turning with a flourish of his coat
and going below deck to his cabin.
Already down there, Soraxos turned as Alex entered, giving a
short hoot.
Alex nodded to him. "Not long," he said to the owl.
~~Timeskip~~
Alex woke up as the ship jolted very hard. Soraxos was
screeching softly from the end of the bed, swaying with the
boat.
Cursing under his breath, Alex flung himself off the bed and out
of his cabin, heading up to the main deck.
Jake was at the wheel, trying ferociously to keep the ship on
course. As he saw Alex come up, he yelled out over the wind and
rain "Storm! It ain't gonna let up any time soon but we should
be docking in about an hour!"
Nodding, Alex went back down and to his cabin.
Turning as Soraxos made a quick succession of hoots, to which
Alex said "About an hour. The storm is very violent for this
region I think. Must be just coincidence."
'Or is it...' Alex thought to himself. Wherever he went, trouble
seemed to follow. Now it seems it caught up with him. 'Chisamae
here we come.'

A middle aged man was walking around in the woods when he
stumbled upon a young girl and a griffin. Looking around, making
sure no one was around him, he leaned over and poked the girl on
the shoulder. She groaned, so she wasn't dead.
"Helloooo?" The man said, cocking his head to one side.
Suddenly, he spotted a green mark on the girl's arm and his eyes
widened. He started to panic a little. "She's a... damn
Outsider! Great!" He muttered under his breath. The girl started
to stir and the man smacked his forehead. Suddenly, he had a
brilliant idea--take her to Hatter! He'd know what to do with
the little urchin. "Miss?" He said to the girl, trying to be
polite so he wouldn't have to use force to take her to the Tea
Shoppe, "Can ya hear me? I think you need some help..."

Cerys groaned and opened her eyes. "What...?" She jumped when
she saw a man standing over her. "What do you want?" she said,
trying not to betray her fear. She stood between the man and
Sora, glancing down at the griffin protectively. He was just
beginning to stir. She winced as she saw his wing. It was
broken.
Cerys turned her attention back to the small man. "Where am I?"
she asked him, her eyes wide. "All I remember... that storm...!"
She looked around. And Alikae, but I can't tell him about her...
not yet... She blinked away tears. She hoped Alikae would be
alright.
Sora stirred behind her, and he looked up at her with worry in
his eyes. With great effort and a huge amount of pain, he
managed to fold his left wing to his side, even though many of
the bones were broken. He whimpered and rubbed his head against
Cerys's ankles.
Cerys looked down at Sora. "Shh, boy, shh. It's alright. I'll
find someone to help you," she whispered.

Sora stood up as the man took off. He crooned softly. Cerys
sighed. "I know you want me to follow... but should I?"
Sora looked down. Something had caught his eye. He reached down
and picked it up gently in his beak, then showed it to Cerys.
She took it from him, looking at it. "It's pretty... what is
it?" she asked. As if she was going to get an answer. Sora, who
had no idea, simply shrugged. Cerys sighed and slipped the small
greenish ring onto her finger. "Another piece of randomly
