With how close they were at that instant, he couldn't feel
anything but his tail going faster and faster along with his
heart. Chuckling softly, he raised his hand and used the side of
his finger to tip her head back, pressing a tender kiss to her
cheek as he smiled brightly. "You are indeed sweet, I said it
wasn't a crush, but I never specified the level of adoration
I've got for you." Giving her a gentle motion to the table, he
sat her down and pushed her chair in for her, picking up his mug
and attaining yet another cup of coffee. His ears stood up
straight and he laughed just a bit. "Enjoy yourself, alright?
I'll be cleaning up, considering I've already eaten this
morning. Later we'll go out to get you some things, okay?" He
stated cheerfully. So, she knew practically everything about him
when it came to simpler terms, but nothing in strained detail.
This, he was happy about. He didn't want her knowing it all when
it came down to the distinct details of his life.
He regretted nothing, yet if she knew even a quarter of the fine
details he kept away, she'd most likely get upset. In this,
Promise just kept his smile, still feeling as happy as ever; as
he started to clean up the mess. Once he was done cleaning up
and putting things away, he opened up the kitchen window and
then retrieved a small black cylinder. Sticking it into his
lips, his ears twitched lightly as he stayed close to the window
and lit the end of it. Once he did, he exhaled a strange blue
and purple smoke that seemed to have green luminescent threads
entwined with it. Turning golden orbs to her, he smiled softly.
"Sorry, kinda my thing. Though it's not anything that will
slowly kill me or upset my health at any point. Instead, it's
good for me, well rather, my kind. So no worries." Turning back
to the window, he took a sip of his coffee and slouched over the
windowsill, holding the strange cylinder in his lips as he kept
that smile and just looked out at everything.

"Hmm... Well if you don't have a crush, then you just keep
confusing me. In a good way, to clarify. You see, I've been
called every adjective and name in the book, and sweet has never
been one of those words." Her nose wrinkled playfully as she
mentioned the word sweet, and she finally gave up trying to keep
track of everything he was doing and perched herself on the edge
of the counter. Tipping her head to the side, she watched as he
poured the cat milk, and felt her heart melt a tiny bit, but did
her best to shake it off. For goodness sake, she had only just
met this man, and although he had taken perfectly good care of
her, she didn't want to develop feelings before she was certain
he felt the same first. And she just couldn't tell. Still... No
one said having fun with it was against the rules. Launching
herself delicately off the counter, she tip-toed over and came
to watch as he moved around the kitchen. Upon being asked which
she preferred, she paused. "I... Um..." Blushing, she looked
down and laughed, embarrassed. "I have no idea. Which would you
recommend?"
Moving around him once he was finally standing still, she
smiled. "Oh, haha. You have a little something on your face."
Flicking her tongue out to moisten her thumb just slightly, she
rubbed gently at the spots of flour and sugar on his face, her
other hand poised lightly on his neck to keep him in place. Once
all of it was gone, she looked up at him, and took in how close
they were, and laughed. "If you're not careful yourself, I might
just get feelings of my own..." Her voice dipped as she
skittered away, and muttered, "Or stronger ones, anyway."
Considering his next question, she answered this quickly,
"Waffles sound just wonderful!" And, with perfect timing, her
stomach rumbled loudly.

Ears perked up slightly when ever she spoke, showing that he was
listening intently as he skittered about the kitchen. Grabbing
items of various types before she asked him about his story.
Pausing for a minute, he turned to look at her over his shoulder
with that same smile. "I wouldn't call it a crush per say..
Simply that I adore you. Though it might develop into a crush if
you're not careful about how cute and sweet you are." He said,
that blush flaring up a bit as he turned to pour a cup of flour
into a bowl. His tail wagging furiously before he began to mix a
few items together. Raising his hand to wipe his cheek with his
finger, having flung some egg onto his face, he ended up
smearing a line of white powder across it unknowingly. "My story
is simple.. I was born, then abandoned at the age of five. I
lived on my own and had no problem with that. I was well aware
of what I was capable of doing.. My empathic abilities much more
reversed than what the normal is.. Instead of just feeling what
others did, I was capable of manipulating the emotions, even my
own. Until I grew too adept with being happy and cheerful. Then
my mind kind of set it to default and I'm now incapable of being
anything but happy and such. I grew up walking around, I built
this house myself, and I came to the conclusion that if I could
make everyone happy and help everyone that I could, then I'd
have a purpose."
Tilting his head at the mewing sound, the black cat having grown
since the last she saw, he poured some milk into a bowl and set
it down before he continued cooking and making various things.
"My name is Promise, even though I was treated poorly, and no
promise should be treated as such. I helped every which way I
could and I have no hatred towards anyone or anything. I love
oranges and I have a unique sense of humor that tends to get a
bit out of hand when it comes to bad jokes.. My story unfolded
and I came across you sitting at the gate.. I had walked a few
hours away from the house and saw you.. Instantly, that lifeless
look, it struck a pain to my heart when I couldn't feel any
emotions coming from you.. No one.. Should ever have to live
like that. Ever. So, I wanted to help you and I did. I became
attached to you and didn't want to leave you. So I ensured that
you were well taken care of and will until you decide to part
with me, even after that I'll still ensure you're well taken
care of."
Stating this with that blissful smile, he chuckled softly and
turned to look at her with that cheerful expression before he
continued to cook. It didn't take him long till he had made a
vast array of items, balancing three plates on each arm before
placing them on the table and then looking at her. "Now do you
prefer tea, coffee, or some form of juice with your breakfast?
I've made pancakes, waffles, eggs, and a few other things. You
haven't eaten, so I'm sure you're probably starving, so do not
be bashful by any means! Else I'll have to show you how a dog
eats, which isn't pretty when it comes to making a mess." He
said with a laugh, flour and sugar covered fingers with a splash
of white on his black marked cheek. It didn't seem like anything
could ever bring him down, especially with that smile of her's
around him.

Realizing she really couldn't do much in the way of finding her
own ingredients, Sabrina laughed and stepped back. "Fine, I
suppose you can take charge just this once." Watching Promise
out of the corner of her eye, she shook her head and smiled,
noticing how he kept looking at her with this oddly affectionate
expression on his face. The blush hadn't totally faded from his
cheeks, and it was adorable. Tipping her head to the side,
Sabrina smiled and murmured, "You really are pretty cute when
you blush," hoping to bring it back. Hoisting herself up she
settled on the counter, watching him work to make food, noting
where everything was. The colors in her eyes swirled slowly, and
she realized just how at peace she felt here. It was comforting,
and whether it was or not, she certainly considered this place
home now. As Promise complimented her once more, Sabrina shook
her head, her hair waving to and fro, and simply smiled.
"Seems like someone's got a crush," she teased. Her tummy
flipped as she said it, and she crossed her arms over her
stomach as if he could see it somehow. Kicking her heel gently
against the side of the counter, she tried to think of a way to
get a conversation going, to really get to know Promise. "So....
According to that nifty little book, you know everything about
me. What's your story?" Her eyebrows rose challengingly, and a
mischievous smile spread over her lips. He must have some kind
of story, and Sabrina was dying to know what it was. Resting
her elbows on her legs, and her chin in her hands, she batted
her eyelashes innocently at him, wondering what his response
might be. And, hey, it would be nice to get to know him. God
knows how long they might be living together.

Upon the sudden comical hug, his ears perked up and his arm came
around her in return of the gesture. A chuckle eluding his lips
as he looked down at her with those smoldering gold orbs. It was
laughable the way she had taken his coffee and had placed it
back in such a manner. That smile, the way she had become so
much brighter, it drew a smile to his lips. He could really
appreciate that smile more than anything, seeing as how much
hell she had to go through to get it back. When he was dragged
down the hall, he couldn't help the blush that came to his
cheeks as he hadn't even said a single word yet. Watching her
skitter about, he leaned against the wall and took another sip
of his coffee. His calm exterior betrayed by his tail going a
million miles an hour as he watched her and felt her hip bump
with his. He laughed softly and gazed down to her, his hand
raising to scratch at the spotted ear as he thought to himself
for a moment."Hmm.. Well, how's about we both cook? Do you know
what you like to eat for breakfast? I know how to make a lot of
things from scratch, so I don't actually keep premade or full on
ingredients around here. So, I can show you how to make some
stuff." He trailed off, chuckling softly.
Walking to the sink, he placed his cup into it after rinsing it
out before he looked at her with that sweet smile of his. "Plus,
it's adorable how sweet you are.. I really do love your smile.
I'm happy I was awake to see it. Really, there's no reason to
thank me, when I'm able to appreciate such a beauty standing in
my kitchen." There he went again, being blunt as ever. Though
that didn't seem to bother him at all as he just kept that
obliviously sweet smile and gazed at her.

"Well. Shit." Sure, it wasn't quite the first words someone
would want to be known to have said as their first sentence in a
new life. But it wasn't all bad. It was amazing, in fact.
Whoever this Promise person was, Sabrina needed to find them.
Rolling herself out of bed and stretching with an appreciative
groan, she froze as she heard movement outside the room. Maybe
it was him? Turning slowly, she came face-to-face with the man
from the picture. Her heart beat ridiculously fast, as
technically she herself had no ties to this man. And yet, thanks
to him and the book, she did. Literally throwing herself at him,
she came to a staggering halt a couple inches from him and
gently maneuvered his coffee cup out of his hand and set it on
the dresser. Finally, she threw her arms around him and tried to
get out a thank you at an appropriate volume. Realizing he was
shirtless, she turned bright red, oddly thankful that she could
blush, and bit her lip as she looked at the floor. "Really... I
can't thank you enough." Turning her face back up to him, she
cautiously smiled, before it broke loose into a giddy grin.
Remembering she had rudely interrupted his caffeine intake, she
sculpted his hands into the proper shape and returned the coffee
cup. It was almost comical, but she felt so strangely attached
to this man she didn't know, and he had obviously taken care of
her while she had been awake. Suddenly aware that she had been
gawking at him like a little dork, she chuckled quietly before
brightly asking, "So what can I get you for... Well, you're
having coffee so it must be morning. What would you like for
breakfast? That is, if I remember how to even cook." Shaking her
head, she tucked her colorful hair behind her ear and flounced
toward the hallway, playfully grabbing his hand and dragging him
with her as she passed by him. "I'm afraid you're going to have
to tell me where everything is." Reaching the kitchen, she
gestured at all the cupboards and drawers, and bumped his hip
with hers. "Well? What do you want, and where can I find the
stuff to make it?"

'I am Promise, and I've made a Promise, and I will keep this
Promise, because I am just that, your Promise.'
Those words written so neatly beneath the photo of her kissing
his cheek as the other had stayed pinned upon the wall. Even as
he felt the rush, even has he felt that searing pain that
tingled his every nerves. The moment she collided with him,
those words entrancing his thoughts as his arms wrapped around
her. He wouldn't let her down, it wasn't in his nature. So even
as he felt the liquid fire in his veins, his emotions being
dragged from him, he kept that sweet smile. A sheen of sweat
showing his determination as he struggled with the pain, as if
going into a wrestling match with an opponent much larger than
himself. The moment it was over, he felt as though he was as
hollow as the tree he found one day. He felt as though his heart
was not beating, as though he was nothing but ice. Yet, he
didn't fret, no; he wouldn't fret. Without word, even as the
feline meowed at him and pleaded for some kind of reaction, he
scooped up the limp woman and laid her in the bed.
Now it was time to wait, also time for him to get it together
before she woke back up. The changes she had undergone, he
couldn't be sure as to what was going on. Simply because at
first he didn't recall anything. Yet, what she didn't know, what
no one knew but him; was that he was so much more than a canine.
His ears perked up and the memories clashed into his mind like a
falling brick into the evolution of a building, his mind
swirling and his heart thudding loudly in his chest. He had seen
the picture of that deathly hollow woman and then saw himself in
the mirror. The paled look and lifeless gaze was nothing to him.
For this canine, well, he was emphatic. In being someone who was
constantly happy, it was because he was not entirely the way it
was put. He was much like the opposite. He did not feel
everything someone felt alone, no, he cherished those feelings
and returned the good ones ten fold by manipulation. Thus, it
was literally impossible for him to be emotionless and stoic for
more than a little while.
Now standing in his kitchen, a week later with more emotion than
he had began with. His heart warmer as his eyes had charmed that
same golden color instead of that lifeless grey. It had only
been a week yet he had manipulated and altered his train of
thought and emotions to collide and refurbish themselves back to
how they once were. The congregation of his memories being his
entire being, even the ones he had gotten from Sabrina were
still there. He felt no fear of that searing pain, he felt no
worries as to himself, no; he was that usual happy canine
creature that was practically dancing around his kitchen with
glee. Over the days she was 'sleeping', he took care of her and
called a female friend of his to help him tend to her. Making
sure she was moved around so she didn't wake up sore or stiff,
changing her clothes and such so she wasn't uncomfortable when
she awoke. Now his ear perked up and he stood there in his black
pajama pants and slippers, a cup of coffee in hand.
Had he just heard rustling in the bedroom? Was she awake now?
His tail was going a million miles an hour but his happy
expression was still there and his heart was racing with glee.
Not what she probably expected. Had she read the book entirely
by now? Waiting a few more moments, he took a sip of the coffee
and walked to the doorway of his bedroom, staring at the beauty
that seemed to be a gentle ray of sunshine. A smile resting upon
his lips as he looked at her and didn't much care if his hair
was everywhere, his ears lopsided, his tail going crazy, and his
attire much less than what it should be speaking of the exposed
torso. Though he was well built, well toned, and muscular; there
were scars that traveled his now exposed upper body though he
didn't seem to care at all as he stood there looking at her.
"Beautiful. I knew your smile would be something I'd cherish to
see and never forget.. It was heartbreaking to see you tear up
like that too." He paused, stepping forward and setting the
coffee down as he looked at her and chuckled.
"I told you I'd be fine, I'm incapable of being anything but
happy. So chin up and keep that pretty smile."

Sabrina had smiled, almost genuinely, as Promise winked at her
and assured her he wouldn't forget her, no matter how she may
look or act. But it quickly evaporated as the reality of the
situation sank in. And while she believed him, she also knew
what this would feel like. Perhaps it was that she wasn't even
close to as pure as he was, but she would never be able to
forgive the people who had done that to her to begin with.
Taking a deep breath, she dipped her head in a hesitant nod and
whispered to the ground, "I-I guess this is it, huh?" For once,
she was simply a young, terrified girl. All hints of confidence,
arrogance, and bravery had fled from her as even the faint color
in her cheeks drained away. She wasn't sure why she was worried,
it wouldn't hurt her. She'd be getting the happy memories. All
she could hope for was that this would end with both their lives
and sanity intact.
Her eyes slowly drifted back up to his, and although her
knuckles her white, and her jaws quivering with the tension of
fighting the pain, her eyes were filled with real hope, fear,
and gratitude. Flinging herself at him, Sabrina wrapped her arms
around him as tightly as she could, and whispered a thank you in
his ear. Letting out a sigh, and never moving from her position,
she explained the process as honestly as she could. "I'm gonna
stay right here, okay? If it hurts, hurt me back, I don't care.
And I know it will, unfortunately. It's like when your foot
falls asleep, sort of." Her face scrunched up as she searched
for a better explanation. "At first... At first you'll feel
nothing. Literally. You'll go totally numb. And then.... It will
hurt. Like something you can't even begin to fathom. Even the
memory of that kind of pain might keep you awake at night,
fearing you'll ever have to feel it again. Thankfully, I
suppose, it comes on slowly, and it only will take an hour or so
to complete. But... It's awful. I don't want you to go back on
this, I'm just trying to warn you." As her own memory of the
experience speared through her, a sweat broke out over her
forehead. Shaking her head, she murmured, "Let's just get this
over with."
Closing her eyes, Sabrina formed a picture of Promise in her
mind. She grimaced, not wanting to take away the look of pure
joy that seemed ever-present on his face. Staying focused, she
gritted her teeth as as the black shadow that had once laid
behind him in her mind stood and crawled over him. Only for a
moment did she see it attach itself to him and tug at the first
thread of emotion before she was bombarded with a swarm of
foreign memories and emotions. At first she could feel nothing,
even at the tenderest and most joyful scenes. For a terrifying
minute, she thought it might not have worked. And then she felt
it. The warmth started in her toes and fingertips, and raced
through her veins and into her heart and soul. Her body
collapsed to the ground, without a pulse, but she didn't feel
it. the thousands of colors were returning to her eyes, swirls
of green and blue and yellow, hues of red and purple and orange.
Her skin flushed with a new color entirely, radiant sun-kissed
tan, and her dark hair was shocked through with locks of various
colors.
And she slept. She slept for weeks. Blood slowly started to beat
through her veins sometime in her second week, until eventually
she stirred into an actual sleep, and woke after twelve weeks of
rest. Her eyes almost seemed stuck shut for a moment, but
eventually fluttered open as she rolled over, onto some kind of
object. Rolling back, she picked up what appeared to be some
kind of journal, and opened it. A picture fluttered out, and she
blinked, a tiny paper cut of memory trying to get out as she
stared at the man and woman in the picture. The paper that had
fluttered down next to it read "Sabrina and I, don't forget
-Promise." There was something frighteningly empty about the
woman, something Sabrina couldn't put her finger on. Shaking
her head, she turned the page and began to read, and she could
swear the sun started to shine a little bit brighter.

Promise was a tad bit surprised by the sudden kiss to his cheek.
It flared a bright red line across his marked face. A slight
chuckle reverberated from his lips as he looked at her with a
sweet smile. "There's nothing to forgive.. And of course I'll
remember you. I'd never forget." He said gently. Picking up the
camera again, he wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her
closer, planting a kiss on her cheek as he took the picture.
Smiling still as he took the picture and waited for it to
develop before he pinned it to his wall. Picking up a piece of
paper and a pen from his desk, he wrote down in bold and script
text,"Sabrina and I, don't forget. -Promise." and pinned it to
the wall beside the photo. Looking at her with a wink,"There,
now it's a sure thing that I wont forget!" Was there a point
when he wasn't cheerful or spastic? Not really, it just wasn't
in his nature. Courching down in front of her, he gingerly took
her hands in his and looked up at her with a face that displayed
determination like no other.
"Don't worry, I'll be fine in the end. There's no need to be
worryful. You've got the book, you'll remember.. I'll remember
and I'll be fine. So just be happy, okay?" He said reassuringly,
that bright smile of his never fading as his ears perked up and
his tail seemed to go a million miles and hour as he looked up
at her with that reddened face. Leaning up close to her ear, he
let a gentle whisper part his lips. "Just look at the last page
of the book with our picture.. Then you'll know why I wont
forget you.. You'll see it when you come back.. Even if you look
different, act different, or talk different; I wont forget you."
Leaning back, he looked up at her and smiled gently. "Now, lets
go ahead and do this, I'm eager to see your smiling face, eager
to see you happy."

A sweet, sad smile crossed Sabrina's lips as she watched the
kitten retreat into the bag, creating it's own little sanctuary.
How lucky it was to have found someone like Promise to care for
it this way. Sabrina pursed her lips in thought as she wondered
for the billionth time if she was doing the right thing.
Watching as he scribbled the last couple words, she smiled
faintly. Now, no matter what, she would have these memories with
her. To be honest, she couldn't really judge if that was a good
thing or not. Chewing her lip for a moment, she rose to her feet
and was hit by a wave of exhaustion. Swaying on the spot, she
waited for the dots to fade before rubbing her eyes and
shrugging. Looking over at the boy, and smiling at his offer,
she politely declined. "Just... Um.... Just make sure I don't
pass out."
Thankfully, she didn't have to pay attention as they walked. He
seemed to be leading the way, and Sabrina couldn't focus enough
to find her way on her own anyhow. She tried to time when her
eyes would slip shut with when he wasn't turning back to look at
her. It was almost endearing. Maybe, if he was still around when
she 'woke up,' they could be friends. Not that he would
recognize her. There was no way of telling how she would come
out looking. A pang of regret rippled through her as she thought
of how well they might've gotten along when she was her old
self. He was so good, genuinely a kind person. Cracking her
knuckles, trying to keep herself awake, she breathed a sigh of
relief when she realized she had spaced out enough that they had
now arrived.
It was a cute little cabin, although she was surprised that he
would find this kind of solitude enjoyable, what with how
friendly he was. As he guided her into his room, and settled her
on the bed, she almost couldn't believe he really had no
ulterior motives. But in her heart, she knew he would never do
such a thing. As he pulled her closer and pulled out a camera,
she laughed, but allowed the cat to climb onto them and settle
in for the picture. And, in the split second he took the
picture, she surprised herself, and surely him as well, by
planting a kiss on his cheek. Blushing as a wave of
embarrassment, and with it pain washed through her, she
stuttered out some kind of response. "I..I..I don't know what
that was but... Please remember me. And please, God, forgive me
for what you're willing to go through when I harvest your
emotions."

Promise's canine like structure sat there without any idle
movement. The pen quickly splaying across the page as if he
could write a novel in seconds. Which, he probably could
considering he wrote constantly and drew all the time. Each word
presented, each hardship, everything was written down according
to what she said. He even wrote down this very moment that was
happening, also adding something to the end of it that read.. 'I
am Promise, and I've made a Promise, and I will keep this
Promise, because I am just that, your promise.' Smiling a bit,
he looked at her, having seen the tear with glowing gold orbs.
Placing the pen down, he reached up and gingerly brushed away
the streak of wetness that came with the single tear. That
gentle smile of his remaining on his lips. "Okay, it's written
up.." He said softly as he placed the book in his bag as well as
the other items. The kitten slinked in there and he couldn't
help but chuckle at the site.
Standing up, he slung the bag over his shoulder gently so not to
hurt the purring creature that peeked out of his bag. Looking
down at Sabrina, he delicately bent down, picking her up in his
arms as he smiled at her. "Understood and you can 'sleep' in my
house. It's a bit of a ways, and I can tell you're already
exhausted just thinking about what's about to happen, so just
rest easy and I'll carry you there." He said cheerfully. Could
anything damper his mood? Never. Moving her to his back, he
looked over his shoulder at her and smiled. "Tell me if you get
cold or something, I'll give you my jacket." This canine was
some form of entity, something of pure kindness that could not
be riddled as anything else. Turning on his heels, he started to
walk the same direction he came from. Considering he walked
everywhere, sometimes for hours or days, there was no telling
how far he had gone now. Though he was sure it wouldn't take too
long getting back.
After about an hour, they had reached a good half way of the
destination and he couldn't help but continue to look back to
check on her. The mewing in his bag didn't unsettle him, knowing
the kitten was delving in the meat he had in there. It was
amusing really, how some things turned out. Yet he still smiled,
because it was something amazing, really. His ears twitched
beneath his hat as his tail swayed back and forth like some
happy puppy who had gotten a new treat. That was just him, that
was Promise. Soon enough, they had reached a dirt pathway that
lead up to a smaller cabin deep in the heart of the woods. Even
the path became hidden a quarter way into it's self. Promise may
have been very social, but he did indeed like his sanctuary and
safety as well as his privacy from people who liked to badger
him. Once they got to the cabin, he jostled the door open with
his foot and stepped into the warm house. The warmth washed over
them like a tidal wave of comfort as he looked back at her with
that bright smile before taking her into his room. Gently
settling her down on the bed, he went over to his desk and
rummaged around in the drawer of it before he pulled out an
instant camera. Promise sat down beside her as he wrapped his
arm around her shoulders and pulled her a bit closer, the kitten
crawling out of the bag and accompanying them by resting on both
of their shoulders in the middle. Laughing a bit, he looked at
her before he took a picture of the two of them and let the
image show up before he pulled out the book and slipped it
inside. "There.. Now you'll have some form of physical proof
other than the book too! So.. Shall we start?" He asked, looking
at her with that same gentle exterior.

Sabrina's lips parted just slightly, but she remained quiet. Her
black eyes were fixed on this boy, but her mind had obviously
fled to another place. Kneading her knuckles into the dusty
ground until several rust-colored spots were left in the road,
Sabrina thought. She could do this, and not hurt anyone. At
least, if the boy was being honest. He could just be trying to
spare her feelings. Then again, if it was really so important to
him to help her she would, of course, let him do so. Squeezing
her eyes shut until she saw stars, and biting her lip until she
thought it might bleed, her whole body seized up in a moment of
raw hope, fear, and love, handing her life over to this stranger
and knowing she would have another chance. In one gasping breath
and a fraction of a second of genuine emotion, she cried out,
"I'll do it!"
Shoving the pen and notebook at him, she spoke with the sort of
desperation as if she thought the memories might suddenly fade,
"I remember everything." And so it began, the recounting of her
entire life. Waking in the forest as a wolf pup, to find an
entire country side of mystical wolves that came to be her
family, and after centuries, her undoing. And only after being
thrust out into the world as a human, and kicked and beaten down
by nearly everyone, finding a ray of hope. Destiny. They had a
tumultuous relationship to say the least, and after years of on
and off, had married. Even had a child. But Destiny had left her
again, and for good. After successfully ending her life, Sabrina
had finally made it back to where it turned out she was from,
Heaven. Only, she was greeted with disappointment and
humiliation. Less than pleased, the gods returned her to earth
in a slightly altered state. She was stripped of all human
emotion and 'privileges,' dying included. And know what it felt
like, the only way to do be returned to her former glory as it
were, was to strip someone of their emotions and mortality.
She had kept her composure throughout most of the story, not
frowned or smiled, until Destiny was mentioned. A single,
unpredictable tear traversed down Sabrina's cheek, although she
made no motion to wipe it away. it coursed down her neck and
over her collarbone, coming to an abrupt destruction when it met
her shirt. Her voice wavered only slightly, and as she finished
the story, Sabrina took a shaky breath, and waited to hear if he
had anything to say. Would he change his mind now? Had it been a
trap, simply to get to all her deepest regrets and memories?
Curling her toes, she pulled her legs to her chest, watching him
with a shadow of curiosity on her face. Remembering one last
detail, she tried to play it off as casually as she could. "By
the way, if you let me do this, it will kill me. I'll come back,
sort of how a phoenix would. It will take some time, naturally,
and I need you to help me find someplace to be safe while I...
uh... Sleep. And somewhere the book would be safe just lying
there with me."

Promise sat idly as he awaited her response, fingers delicately
running his fingers over the soft fur of the feline. Subtle eyes
rested upon the closed lids of Sabrina as she spoke, those words
ever so appealing to hear as she had taken up his offer. Sure
there would be some hellish consequences in store for him, but
he cared not for those. He would prevail over any obstacle to
help this woman. Smiling ever still, he chuckled lightly and
spoke quaintly. "I'm glad you're taking up the offer, Sabrina. I
promise, I'll write everything down even this. There's no need
to worry about my getting my emotions back, that's a simple task
for the likes of me. I promise, I'll be able to restore them.
They will outweigh the misery that comes because I am literally
incapable of being anything but happy. I am incapable of
remaining sad or anything other than happy for more than a few
hours. It's a part of my nature. Thus, I'll be just fine." He
said, gingerly putting the feline back into his lap as he
reached into the bag and got out his note book and pen. "Now,
shall we begin with your story, m'dear? Oh, and you're not a
little girl, you're a very beautiful young woman. Don't degrade
yourself just because of this situation you're in." He said with
a chuckle, smiling even more now.

As Sabrina listened, her black eyes widened with a mix of
surprise, fear and raw hope. It was ghosts of emotions, but
closer than she had gotten in what felt like a lifetime. Her
heart raced and then squeezed to a halt as her punishment took
hold and prevented her access to the real emotions, and she felt
emotionless, alien tears falling from her cheeks. Truthfully,
this was the first time she had ever been shown that kind of
compassion since she had been put back on this earth. Gripping
her knees with white-knuckled hands as the waves of pain rolled
over her, Sabrina squeezed her eyes shut and and prayed he would
be gone when she opened them. Sure, if she accepted his offer
she would be free from this forever, but she could not put such
a wonderful human being through this kind of literal
soul-sucking torture. Settling herself against the fence again,
once the pain resided, she raked one pale hand through her hair,
but kept her eyes shut and her lips still for several minutes.
As the wind blew around her ears, she could swear for one crazy
second that a voice was telling her to take him up on the offer.
Opening one dark eye slowly, her dark lashes almost touching her
arched eyebrow, she looked him up and down before she spoke
again. Her voice was very faintly laced with hope and fear as
she shut her eye once more and finally broke.
"If I take you up on this... Take your emotions.. You promise
you can get them back, and they will outweigh all the misery
I'll be almost intravenously forcing upon you?" She couldn't
look at him as she asked, in case the answer was no. Because
with the cure to her life as a shadow in sight, she could not
afford to turn back. Sabrina knew she would never be able to
undo her death, but she could try to start over. And that is
what would happen. Her whole life before would be erased. Would
be wiped from history. And that was one thing stopping her. She
could not let go. Opening her eyes, she looked him square in the
face. "One... One more favor. If I do this, I need to have my
life written down. Can you write it for me? I could tell you
everything, in parts, and you could write it for me. We would
get to know each other better, and I wouldn't just be some sad
little girl to you. And... When I do...Start over, I can read it
and remember. Please." She looked at him, and although on the
surface it was as emotionless as a glacier, and just as cold,
there was a flicker in her eye. It was tiny, and it wasn't there
unless you really, really saw who she was, but there was a
flicker of hope in her eye.

Listening intently to every word Sabrina said, his ears twitched
and his tail had stopped wagging. The feline that had once
purred looked depressed beyond belief, staring at the woman with
a saddened gaze. Even animals were capable of understanding
complex situations. When she was done and he had examined the
scars, he thought momentarily before he smiled. How could he
smile after hearing something like that? Promise wasn't just any
normal dog at all, not even close to a simple hybrid of canine
and humanoid. Looking to the feline, he chuckled. "Should I?" He
asked, cat's having a quite keen sync with the people they're
being petted by. The feline looked up and gave a mew of approval
before Promise looked back to Sabrina and lightly took her hand
in his, smiling ever still. "Let me teach you something,
Sabrina. You wouldn't be doing anything wrong by doing that, not
at all. Memories are still there, there's always copies in the
mind, it reprocesses everything. So even if you took my
memories, they'd still be there. Like back up files on a
computer. My emotions, you could take those, but I'd only allow
you to take the happy ones. Emotions are easily redone, the Gods
say they've punished you. Though it looks to me like it's a
harsh lesson rather than a punishment. To teach you that you can
get your emotions back because even humans feed off one
another's emotions daily. It's a part of life. You're welcome to
my emotions and memories, I'll happily give you them right this
second to make this better. You may be a stranger in most
senses, but to me, you are a person who needs happiness more
than I do. I can always gain my happiness back. All I have to do
is reflect upon this little feline here. How coy and sly this
cat can be, how sweet and adoring but vicious it's claws can be.
I look upon the bright side of things, I'm practically incapable
of being anything but happy. So trust me when I say this, you're
welcome to my feelings and you're welcome to my memories. I'll
happily accept your's as well. I only ask that you cherish that
happiness and never let it fade." He said this as if he had done
it plenty of times before. "The lesson is to know that you're
not giving up any part of your humanity in doing this.. You're
learning that humans and creatures alike are parasites when it
comes to emotions. They feed off each other and in turn, make
each other each emotion in every way in short bursts. It's an
endless cycle, one that keeps people alive."

Taking the several shreds of the meat, instead of eating it she
first began to braid it together as she looked at him, quietly
for a moment. Drawing in another deep breath of air, Sabrina
thought of how to begin. "My name is Sabrina Demnoxi. I'm older
than you can possibly imagine. Mentally, emotionally.... I am
ancient. I've been homeless, I've been part of a wolf pack. I
was...Am...Part goddess, but not at all part of it. Angry about
it in fact. I left the wolf pack after roughly half a century of
a solid family, when it was starting to dissolve. I was so
helpless, after being the alpha female of such a tight-knit
group of shape shifters. But I found Destiny." Sabrina stopped,
her heart racing and her head spinning, but her soul still
rendered unable to respond to the amount of pain it brought on.
Squeezing her eyes shut, she continued, shakily at first but
stubbornly speaking until her voice leveled out again.
"Destiny Deveraux. She was beautiful, in every sense of the
word. She was my world, and for a small part of time that should
have lasted forever, I was hers. But she had a past. There was
this woman, from before me. Elora. She had broken her heart, but
of course couldn't be forgotten. Destiny and I made it to being
engaged the first time Elora convinced her to cheat on me. The
second time, we were married, with a child. When Destiny left
the second time, she made it clear that it was for good. I had
to keep up my living, so I did shady jobs, and when my son's
school found out, they took him. Let me make it clear, I was a
perfectly good mother. I never let that child go without food,
shelter, or love. But they took him anyway. And that was it. I
gave up. Committed suicide. Let me tell you, it most certainly
was not the easy way out. I ended up back in Heaven, and the
gods decided that I had disgraced them, and needed to be
punished. So. Here I am. Void of all human emotion, but forced
to remember my past, and bear the scars of my death." Pausing
now, her eyes never having left his, she gently pulled down the
high collar of her shirt to reveal a defined, pink scar running
straight across her neck. She then lifted her sleeves to reveal
similar scars running up her arm. Giving him a few moments to
make judgements if he chose, she whispered now. "To get back to
who I used to be, I have to give up the sliver of humanity I
have left and do something I would never imagine. Stealing away
someone else's emotions and memories, and forcing mine upon
them. I'm afraid I would never let you do that."

Promise's expression never changed, never wavered. Like nothing
could bother or effect him, if she wanted to steal his emotions,
that was fine. He could just make more happiness for himself by
being as cheerful as he was now. Upon her words, ears perked up
and he sat down suddenly, like an obedient creature. His tail
wagging back and forth furiously as he looked at her with
smoldering gold eyes. "Oi, I'm Promise, just so you know my name
from here on out. In all honesty, I'm not from around here and I
don't listen to rumors either, so either way; it doesn't matter
does it? I see what I see and in you I see someone who's in need
of help and who's practically hollow on the inside. Someone who
doesn't choose to be this way but is. Someone whom I'd very much
like to help." He stated this in a some what serious but still
cheerful tone. Soon enough, the feline from earlier had made her
way into his lap and purred, curling up. Blinking a few times,
he looked down to the cat and quirked a brow. "Nani? I guess you
want me to keep you.. Okay, I can tend to you." He said,
chuckling before he returned his gaze to the lady in front of
him. "Your story might aid in my helping you to gain yourself
back. So it'd be lovely to hear what has happened." That
charming smile never left his lips even as he rummaged around in
his bag, getting out the shredded meat and feeding some to the
cat and offering the woman some as he put a sliver into his
mouth.

Looking up as she sensed a presence close by, Sabrina raised her
eyebrows in a faux show of emotion. This creature was so... Odd.
But definitely happy in this state, she could easily see. It was
almost endearing. Almost touched into the speck of her that
still existed. And the closeness of it, yet knowing it was never
reachable again, stung like a rattlesnake bite. Knitting her
brows together, her eyes blazed. When she spoke, her tone was
cold, dead, and emotionless. Not unfriendly, necessarily. It was
simply nothing. Her black eyes bore into his friendly ones, and
while it might seem like she was glaring at him, she was doing
something some might consider much worse. She was trying to
steal his emotions. Trying to reach into his soul and steal them
back, as if he had personally taken them. Squeezing her eyes
shut when she realized what she was doing, she turned her head
and let out a breath. She may be dead inside, and may never
return, but she would rather do that than bring back her life in
the only way she had been told was possible. She would not be
evil.
Turning back to look at him, her eyebrows were forced into a
pleading look, still fake, but important if he were to escape.
"Listen. You don't want to be here. I don't... Well, I suppose I
do need help, but there's no way it can happen. You should have
run anyway by now, I hear I'm quite terrifying. Something about
how apathetic I look. Hm... I'll never know. Anyhow, your
choice. Will you leave, or stay? If you stay I guess I could
tell you a story. My story even, if you'd like." She offered him
another emotionless, frightening smile and waited, wondering.
She had never asked anyone if they wanted to know what happened
to her, and she hadn't planned to now. A miniscule beat of hope
rippled quietly through her veins, and she almost felt the fear
that went along with that desperate of hopes.

Promise. His name was Promise. Who would name their child such a
thing? Well, his mother always call him her little cherished
Promise. So he didn't really care nor understand it. He was a
bright individual, someone with prosper and gleam, usually happy
despite his negative situations. Considering what exactly he
was, he wasn't really even capable of becoming anything less
than happy. Ding ding ding, he was a dog. Quite literally, a
dog. Bright gold eyes, milky flesh with black splotches on it in
odd ways and shapes, and two long floppy dalmatian like ears
that often were seen protruding from an orange hat. Promise
stood there, hand slipped into the pocket of his black jeans as
he wore a grey and red t-shirt beneath a off white sweater that
hung off his shoulder. Promise adored oranges, and this seemed
like the perfect place to buy them or find them. Walking through
the streets looking at everything and smiling ever still.
Canines showing that he certainly had the maw to tear through
meat like it was nothing, though he'd never use it in a harmful
manner. A long fluffy and spotted tail of white pearly color was
wagging back and forth, long fur exceeding the length of many
large dogs that weren't of certain breeds.
Promise couldn't help the playful chuckle that came from his
lips, seeing a cat curled up upon the ground looking like it was
bored and starved. He certainly felt bad for the creature, so he
picked the feline up and rummaged around in his canvas bag,
searching for something. Once he got a feel for it, he pulled
out the baggy and little fish toy. "Here you go" He said sweetly
as he stroked the purring feline's head and set her down,
tossing the toy and watching the cat play with it endlessly.
Getting the baggy open, he got out some large sums of meat and
set it down for the cat. "Gotta go look for oranges now.. You
stay out of sight of anyone who would want to hurt you, Kitty."
He said cheerfully as he continued on his way. Sure, Promise was
a canine, but that didn't mean he hated cats. He was actually
raised with a feline sister. Sure she was adopted, but that
didn't make her any less of a sister. Gave a new meaning to
fighting like cats and dogs when they argued. He couldn't help
but laugh in an amused manner at the thought. That was, until he
saw a woman sitting in front of a gate. She looked... Empty.
Hollow even. His ears folded back in disdain of the matter and
he cautiously approached her. "Hey miss, are you okay? Did you
get locked out? Do you need anything?" He said, smiling
brightly. Though he assumed most would be afraid of a woman who
looked like she was that of the pure shadows themselves, he on
the other hand, wasn't scared of anything but his ma.

Sabrina prowled the grounds of her small, secluded home like a
panther guarding it's jungle territory. It was unnecessary, as
no one knew where she lived, or that she was even alive.
Although she was living and breathing, walking and talking,
Sabrina considered herself far from alive. The Sabrina that her
family and friends had known and loved had died long ago, and
what remained was an empty, alter-ego shell. If someone happened
to simply pass by, they would see no real difference. But those
who knew her best, had been close to her, would see it. How her
whole person had gone shades darker and drearier. Her hair that
once shone brown and luxurious gold was now so dark it was
nearly black, and hung straight down over her shoulders. And her
eyes, once the pride of her existence, once swimming with color,
were now onyx black, with only flecks of silver and gray, and
deep as the ocean, and just as terrifying in the right mood.
She realized she must have looked crazy, but she didn't care.
She didn't feel anything, ever. Finally tiring of pacing in her
driveway, she sauntered toward the wrought iron gate that served
only to scare people off. Opening it just a sliver, she slipped
out easily and shut it behind her. Crossing her black jean
covered legs, she folded into a sitting position in front of the
gate, waiting. Her eyes raked over the grounds, yet still unable
to draw any emotion into them. Who would come knocking? And why?

Ready to retort as to what exactly he could help her with, his
words froze her on the spot. As soon as he mentioned Juarez,
Dakota backed up. "Sorry, officer. But I stay as far out of gang
activity as I can. A homeless person is just decoration for a
drive by, at best." Shaking her head, she laughed. "Now... Now I
need a drink." Sitting down at the bar she looked at the
bartender for a moment and asked, "Can I get water here for
free? Hot water, if that's okay. It's too cold out there not to
have hot liquids now." Sighing, she looked over at the officer
and shrugged. "Three cheers for homeless people and no money!
But... I like your accent, just saying. What are you doing in
the States?

As the woman walked up to him James couldn't help but let his
eyes go over before smirking at her question, though he said
nothing. When she started again he scratched at his jaw and
forced himself to keep from smirking. "OH aye, I could think of
a couple things ya could help me with. But first, can ya tell
where Jaime Juarez is?" He asked, his calm tone mixed with a
look of sarcastic mischief that filled his steel colored eyes.
As he waited for her to respond he looked around, this was
definitely not a bar for a lone police officer to be, let alone
a very Scottish one like himself. He didn't care though, he had
his sidearm and he was good with it. though if this woman caused
a scene he would probaly have to leave very fast.

She could have played it cool. A normal person would count their
blessings, hell, maybe even leave. But that goddamn smirk. As
soon as he saw what she was doing, a smirk lit up his face and
lit the defensive match in Dakota. Traipsing up to him, her
brows knit together, she asked tightly, "Excuse me, sir. Can I
help you?" Her green eyes, usually mossy, were now electrified
by her anger. Sure, it was dumb to pick on a cop, but he started
it as far as she was concerned. Picking at her nails, she took a
deep breath and tried to start over. "I'm sorry, it's just, I
saw you look at me, and the expression on your face just made it
seem like you were thinking something particularly asshole-ish."

started whistling, perfect, finally got a break, on his case.
Word was there was a banger at the bar who knew about what was
about to happen between two rival gangs, and James wanted to
know everything.Reaching the bar he saw a woman trying to stay
off his radar, and he smirked, she was probably a prostitute or
a junkie, not his prblem. Walking to the bar he leaned against
it and looked around waiting for his contact.

Dakota usually stayed outside, as stores were unfriendly to the
homeless citizens of the city. But tonight, it was nearly below
freezing, and Dakota had no death wishes that she knew of.
Shuffling into the nearest bar she could find, she lifted her
head once the fierce cold was no long eating at her skin. And
what was the first thing she saw? One of the cities finest.
"Shit. Are you kidding me?" Sighing, she pulled her fingers
through her blond hair, putting her wing-like bangs back into
place and trying to fix her... Exotic... make up. Between her
blue-silver lipstick and the black eyeliner that made a
star-like shape around her eyes, she was easily picked out of a
crowd, and mostly as a hooker. This was an entirely false
accusation, but she was sure word had gotten around the station
by now. Carefully prowling to the bar, she took a seat as far
from the detective as she could, staring straight down at the
counter top.

James looked at his watch irritably, he hated waiting in lines,
particularly when it came to coffee. He had been up late the
night before and now his head was starting to throb from from a
caffeine withdrawal. AS the man in front of him continued to
him-haw over what he wanted James snapped. "Oi, either order
somethin' or get in the back of the damned line mate!" Turning
around quickly as if he was going to say something the man
stopped when he saw James. James Donahue was by no means a small
man, he was six foot two, and weighed a little over two hundred
pound's, and had the physique of a running back, broad at the
shoulders and narrow at the hip. Raising an eyebrow James
smirked, "Can I help ya lad?" he asked, his voice carrying a
deep Scottish accent. The man quickly stepped out of the line
and James nodded, "Thank ya kindly." Stepping up to the counter
James smiled at the pretty server behind it. "Mornin' Isabel,
the usual please lass." The server smiled back and quickly wrote
something on a large paper cup, "Long night again Officer
Donahue?" She asked as she made his coffee. "What would make ya
say that lass?" He asked sarcasticaly, "Well," she started to
reply, " the only time you snap at other customers like that is
if you are running late for work. Which it is only six so you
aren't. Or you were working late." She said as she handed him
the coffee, smelling the aeromatic coffee James smiled. "Aye it
was a late one. Thank ya lass, have a good day." He stated
handing her the exact amount for the coffee then walking away.
