Why did you make that decision, what did you find there and how
did it modify your perspective of the country and the cultural
and political world? What did it mean for you to see the margins
of society that were not portrayed by literature and that rarely
appeared in journalism? I started going to Lecumberri prison
while I was working in the social section of the Excelsior . I
had received a letter from a prisoner, Jesús Sánchez García, in
which he invited me to see a play of his authorship.

We went with Alberto Beltrán, a great Phone Number List

with whom we made the book Everything
Started on Sunday . I also went many times with Luis Buñuel,
with whom we had a very long friendship. We went together to see
Álvaro Mutis, the Colombian writer who was in prison at the
time. And in addition to speaking with many of the prisoners, in
Lecumberri I interviewed, for example, David Alfaro Siqueiros,
who was imprisoned for political reasons and who painted there,
       in his cell.
Lecumberri involved entering a new and, for me, fascinating
world. In fact, I didn't suspect that such a world could exist.
In the Black Palace I learned much more than in the nunnery,
where they only made me recite the New Testament by heart ,
recite prayers and ask for forgiveness for sins that I had not
even committed yet. Seeing the reality of people and their
suffering, but also their joy and courage, was a great learning
experience. And I started writing about them.
