On-site description: "The purpose of this site is two-fold.
Firstly, I want people to be able to use it as a reference
guide. You can come to this site, read anything in yellow, and
know that it comes directly from an episode or film. At least,
to within the limits of my own accuracy - if you spot mistakes
like this, please email and let me know. In the blue section,
which is written from within a 20th Century context, the Lists
and Series Guides sections are intended to be a useful reference
guide to various aspects of the Trek universe."
Reliability: 5/10—Relies on speculation and dialogue too much,
but brands itself as such. Not really useful at all as a source
of analyses, but only of raw data. For example, his analysis of
the Genesis Device
HTML https://www.ditl.org/article-page.php?ArticleID=30
comes up with
an explanation that violates the laws of thermodynamics and
relativity. Oh, so this device makes molecules go faster than
light, and requires an insanely high amount of energy to do a
negative amount of work?
Another example is his claim
HTML https://www.ditl.org/scitech-page.php?ScitechID=9
that Trek
deflector fields are immune to the effects of any laser. While
this is in a page meant to be speculation, it still shows an
ignorance of scientific principles. Just because Picard said
once that "lasers won't even penetrate our navigation shields"
doesn't mean that no laser will! He was referring to the
weaponry of a tiny alien vessel. Kennedy apparently thinks that
a multi-terawatt laser (or even anything with the word "laser"
in its name) would be completely neutralized by the deflectors
of a tiny shuttlecraft! His explanation, in an attempt to
explain this apparent violation of the laws of thermodynamics:
"This is due to the trans-static flux effect which occurs
as a by-product of the deflection process; when laser light
impinges on a deflector field, the effect creates a small portal
into subspace, causing the laser beam to pass harmlessly into
this domain. As the beam is not subspace encased, it will
re-emerge into normal space within a few milliseconds, putting
it several hundred light seconds away. Since the beam never
actually impacts on either the deflector shield or hull the
power of the attack is irrelevant to the effect."
Okay, so how does that technobabble explain that we can see
the ship when it's at warp? Shouldn't all light do likewise and
never be reflected?
