Anyone been fishing lately?
By: jipped genes Date: November 10, 2023, 8:27 am

I have been fishing from the yak and shore. Catching about 2-4
bass an hour all under 2 lbs. Late November is when they will
start to move back in the creeks and I will have a shot at
bigger fish when they follow the gizzard shad back there. All I
see is threadfin shad and minnows. I cannot fish the main lake
due to wind and boats.
caught all of them on either a finesse jig or a swim bait.
Caught a huge crappie on a 3.3" keitech.

I have not been. I thought I was going for a vein closure few
weeks ago. I figured I get it out the way before Mr. Olympia.
After the ultrasound. Doctor had me go get an MRI for what he
suspected was a torn pec. The MRI showed 3/4 of a torn pec.
I don't understand. I have been repping 405 lbs on the bench
and 385 on incline for three months. My veins are xxxl thick
and wiggle. So I thought nothing of it. The tear was so bad
the vein from my pec to shoulder was like popping out of the
skin. So noticeable you could pretty much see the blue blood
in the veins.
So I missed the Olympia and no fishing. Arm is in a sling for a
month. Most of the muscle tissue that tore off the bone.
Pretty much curled up and made it impossible to re-attach. JG
I'll be laid up for a month.
Keep me posted on catches.

Damn bro that is horrible. I have up on heavy weights almost 2
decades ago. I guess you will be hitting the BPC157 and TB500?

We are close boys. At least here. Water temps closing in on 50.
I went out and caught just one buck bass but the wind was
howling and I did not have my terminal tackle for more weights.
Got a cold front coming in today but not bad. Next warming spell
will have water in low 50s. When we hit 55 it will go nuts!
My buddy fished off the boat slip and caught a bunch of eater
size crappie and one 15 incher.

Water temps are still 36-38 degrees here. You can still catch
plenty of fish, but that is a miserable on the kayak. I go up to
my buddy's place with a 3 acre pond and kill them up there even
in the winter. I caught a bass last month around 5 lbs hanging
out in the flats when the sun came up and it got up into the
60's.

Nice. I’ve never caught one bass in the winter. Even the turtle
go in the mud and hibernate all winter long. I have to google
how the heck they don’t have to come up for air all winter
long?

It is definitely harder catching largemouth in the winter when
the waters are near freezing. They suspend in the warmest part
of the water column and they will not move far to eat, so you
have to drop it right on their nose most of the time. I have
bounced a finesse worm right between their eyeballs and they
didn't even budge before. Not even to spook.
Smallmouth are a little more active, since they prefer a cooler
water. I have caught them in the rivers during the winter.

I went out yesterday afternoon right as the front hit. 1 bite
which I missed. It is in the mid 30s now. Next week will warm up
again. I am ready to go as soon as we have 3 days of warm
weather and sun.
Also the last full moon in February is 1 week from today. If we
are warm a lot of fish will move up and start cruising the
shallows. Certainly not all as the water will still be in the
low 50s but SOOOO CLOSE!
I like fishing the winter better than the post spawn though. Gig
gals all move offshore in deep water and are very hard to target
unless you have a shallow lake or good electronics. I have a
helix 10 on my yak but dammit I have the wrong transducer so my
sidescan does not work and my down imaging is poor quality. I
think the transducer is for a less powerful unit.
Anyway, my buddy just bought a bassboat and I will kayak when he
is not available but love pitching and flipping this time of
year.
