Went up to Maine to fish

Hit the Kennebec river fished from a canoe. Caught a bunch of
smaller smallmouth. Caught a striper boil near me. They hit my
bait and peeled line and broke me off. Trying for a 20-30 lbs
striper on 8 lbs line in a rocky river is tough. There are also
HUGE atlantic sturgeon that would jump. I am not joking, some of
these fish had to be 5-6 feet long and came clear out of the
water. The sound of them hitting the water was stunning.
Great time, my buddy caught a 2 lbs. that was the biggest
smallie.
Hey I have never caught one before so add a species to my list.
the scenery was magnificent. If I could go back, I am sure I
would take a reel with heavy line and striper lures. i was just
learning the patterns when we left. . Started slow but by the
end we were catching them about every 5th cast and they were
getting bigger.

Sweet! Congrats JG. Strippers are fun as hell to fight. We had
hybrid strippers at a local power pant lake where I lived most
my life. Used to fish the spillway and wow, game on hooking one.
When I was in the Air Force stationed at Travis AFB in
California we'd fish the canals at Bear Island for Sturgeon.
Some huge dang fist, 6'-10' long. I hooked several but never
even got close to landing one. No clue what I'd have done if I
ever got one to the bank, lol.

We have hybrids in the lake I fish. Sometimes you will be
fishing for white bass and hook a 22 incher. FUN.
I wish I had a reel with 15-20 lbs line. I could have got that
fish in. Never caught a striper before.

We've lived in Maine since 77 for most of the time. Beautiful
place to live , amazing people willing to help out any one.

Is there any pads on that lake? I'm going to head out today or
tuesday. Are you catching largemouth in mid day? They seem to
go deep in mid noon until just before dark. But every lake or
pond is different?
